UFC on FX 5 Results: Bigfoot downs an injured Browne, Dodson earns a title shot

UFC on FX 5 is in the books and with it comes another night of very exciting fights on cable TV, proving that not always the best of cards come from pay-per-view only. In the main event, Travis “Hapa” Browne came in as the favorite over a man with something to prove, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. Knocked out in his last two bouts, albeit against top competition in the form of Daniel Cormier and then Cain Velasquez, Silva needed a win badly to cement his relevancy in the competitive UFC Heavyweight division. He got just that when Browne tweaked his left knee while throwing an errant overhand right, resulting in a severe reduction in stability. Browne fought on valiantly, but it was only a matter of time before Silva landed a huge right and floored Browne, finishing him with strikes in the first round with a TKO.

In other action, Jake Ellenberger won a hard-fought decision over Jay Hieron by scoring some effective strikes and takedowns. Kudos to Hieron for weathering the power of Ellenberger, who is now back in the winners’ column in the ultra-competitive Welterweight division. Who will he face next?

John Dodson made a statement in the new Flyweight division by knocking out formidable Brazilian Jussier Formiga. He now earns the next shot at titleholder Demetrious Johnson. Justin “Fast Eddy” Edwards made a statement at Welterweight when he locked on a standing guillotine choke on Josh Neer early on in the fight, taking it to the ground and finishing the gruesome submission when Neer passed out.
