Unfortunate news broke earlier this week indicating that former long-time UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva would be forced out of his upcoming UFC 198 (May 14, 2016) bout with Uriah Hall in his home of Curitiba, Brazil.

Apparently Silva was suffering from abdominal pain earlier in the week that required him to undergo immediate gallbladder surgery.

“The Spider” has since undergone a successful surgery, and it seems as if a timeline for his return has been discussed.

Check out the UFC’s comments courtesy of UFC.com below:

“Earlier this week, medical personnel determined that Anderson Silva was suffering from inflammation of the gallbladder, a serious ailment that forced him off the UFC 198 card. As a result of the condition, Silva had successful, minimally invasive surgery in Brazil today to remove the gallbladder. He is now resting comfortably following the procedure.

“The recovery period following the surgery is estimated at 4-6 weeks and Silva will be reexamined by doctors before being cleared to return to training.”

At 41-years-old, this is definitely a setback that Silva could’ve done without especially since he was looking to bounce back from a disappointing decision loss to Michael Bisping last February.

However, “The Spider” has seemed adamant on continuing his fighting career despite his age.
