The Reem: Episode 3 “Knockout”, behind the scenes and leading up to UFC 156


The newest episode of Alistair Overeem‘s critically acclaimed video blog/documentary series is up and ready for you to soak in. The episode is appropriately titled “Knockout” an obvious reference to the first UFC loss suffered by the former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 Champion.

This is a great episode, it’s the first time we get to see Overeem vulnerable and coping with any sort of failure in the octagon. When a man that large, powerful and dominant is crushed the way that he was, one can only imagine it to be taxing on the mind and ego of a fighter of his caliber.

The episode details the week leading up to the fight including the staredowns, threats and bad blood involved. Great episode overall, one of the best.

The only question I have is, what the hell was Overeem doing at The Home Depot for a book signing the morning after his loss?? If that’s where the fighters are hanging out now I gotta start buying me some more lumber.

      • win or loss his still my favorite fighter, hopefully he'll comeback strong next time. I know he'll be a champion one day.

    • @Bryan to answer your question it look to be a contracted autograph session except nobody showed up….damn thats hash to your ego 12 hours after you knocked out.

      • I honestly believe that if a loss is taken properly by an athlete, or anyone in life for that matter, It can be a powerful motivator. We may see the best Reem ever. Or we could see a man shirk from punches and scared to get hit.
        We shall see.

  • I'd still pick Overeem to win in a rematch with bigfoot. He was doing great the first half of the fight and should have learned a lesson about being careless in that lose. If he kept his hands up I think he would have won easily.

      • Or even paced himself a bit better. Bigfoot definitely rope-a-doped Overeem good in that fight.

        Overeem also has to kick more and use his reach a little better, he stands too low and tight. Seems like he would benefit from loosening up a bit.

    Props to the Reem for putting this out there. It takes some courage to show this type of candid look at a loss…especially a KO.

  • Reem has to work on his cardio now that bigfoot has really exposed this whole in his game, cardio pain the worst pain there is that is why so many avoid it.

  • Don't believe the media hype! I used to work at that Home Depot location when I was in graduate school! Home Depot offers mini-workshops for customers who are all about making improvements. From 9am – 10:30 a.m. they have a class on how to refinish your patio. Following, at 11:00 a.m. Bill, from plumbing (who boxed in the 1988 Olympics), leads an outstanding clinic on how to KEEP YOUR FREAKING HANDS UP AT ALL TIMES during a fight! Also, afterwards, he gives tips on how to not get gassed out by running your mouth before a fight. Everyone raves about both classes! Hope it helps him make the necessary adjustments to be the next big thing! LMFAO! OMG. ha ha ha ha ha.

  • I laughed out loud when I saw kids in clip at Home Depot saying "He should have kept his hands up." OMG that was so freaking funny!!! Nothing undermines greatness like an inflated ego. You don't need to read Eckhart Tolle books to figure that out. Instead of making all these documentaries about every little thing in his life, it might be better to get a "to do" list of things and put on his bathroom mirror. "1. Review films of the first 20 Mike Tyson fights. Notice how his hands were essentially glued in front of his face at all times. Notice how he destroyed all of his opponents- almost as if they had never boxed a single day in their lives. 2. Review #1. 3. Review #1. 4. Watch interviews of Rocky Marciano and notice how he humbly responds to questions about all of his opponents and his fight preparation. Notice how he responds "I will train hard and hope to win. I wish my opponents a good training camp and look forward to the match." 5. Notice how Marciano retired a HW boxer with a record of 49-0, with 43 KO's. Notice how that record is somehow different that your own. 6. Forget about making documentaries and focus on the above list. 7. Surround yourself with people who remind you to look at this list instead of yes men who keep perpetuating your "legend in your mind" status. 8. Pick up milk at store and skip all injectables from now on.
