The news that former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao was removed from his UFC 177 rematch with TJ Dillashaw was terrible for everyone involved. It hit the fans, especially those who had bought PPV's, it was awful for Barao's title hopes, and the promotion really doesn't need any more headaches right now. Although Barao's replacement Joe Soto is probably pretty happy right now, I highly doubt that number three bantamweight contender Raphael Assuncao is feeling too great about it. Assuncao is the last...

The UFC welterweight division is still a hotpot of talent, and Tyron Woodley got himself back in the mix with his quick knockout of Dong Hyun Kim at UFC Fight Night 48. “The Chosen One” got himself thoroughly beaten by Rory MacDonald at UFC 174, and landed in Dana White's bad books with that performance. Now coming off that first round KO of “Stun Gun”, you'd think that Woodley would want to stay in the company's good graces. His call out of Matt Brown was short lived when “The...

Already rating as a lower-level UFC pay-per-view (PPV) with its T.J. Dillashaw vs. Renan Barao main event rematch intact, this weekend’s (Sat., August 30, 2014) maligned UFC 177 event from the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California, took a massive blow to its fleeting chances of success this afternoon when Barao was forced out of the bout after getting ill before weigh-ins. UFC bantamweight Joe Soto, who was scheduled to face Anthony Birchak in the UFC 177 preliminary card, immediately stepped...

Over Saturation: A Real Problem for the UFC

Posted on August 29, 2014, 08:30 PM by Mike Henken
“Over saturation” has been a huge topic amongst MMA fans and media members for the last year or so. Many people in the MMA community believe the UFC has overextended themselves and went too far with the amount of fight cards they are putting on each year. Now you may not think this is such a huge issue if you are an avid MMA fan and enjoy watching the UFC’s cards almost every weekend, but just to prove my point, the UFC is set to put on 43 fight cards in 2014 and even more in 2015. They...

It looks like the issue of weight cutting in MMA has affected the sport more than ever today, as UFC No. 1 bantamweight contender Renan Barao has been forced out of his UFC 177 main event rematch against TJ Dillashaw at tomorrow night’s (August30, 2014) after becoming ill trying to make the division’s 135-pound weight limit. The UFC confirmed the news about an hour before tonight’s UFC 177 weigh-ins. It’s an extremely unfortunate set of circumstances for Barao, who had his belt taken...

UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones has had quite a controversial time recently, and it all started with the UFC 178 media day brawl with Daniel Cormier. Then came the notorious 'Hot Mic' fiasco, followed by a crashing of the UFC 178 hype train, as Jones was injured and forced out of the fight with “DC”. UFC president Dana White had previously accepted responsibility for the media day brawl, but he has not been so holistic about the injury that forced “Bones” to fall out of UFC...

ONE FC 19 went down today (Friday August 29, 2014) at the World Trade Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and put on the promotion's biggest show to date. Arguably the best showing in ONE FC's history, and presented yet another great representation of Asian MMA. Lightweight champion Shinya Aoki scored a trademark submission win over UFC veteran Kamal Shalorous in the main event, further cementing his reputation as the best MMA fighter currently in the East. Former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren...

Henry Cejudo Removed From UFC 177 Card For Medical Reasons

Posted on August 29, 2014, 01:09 PM by Rory Kernaghan
Olympic Gold Medallist Henry Cejudo was all set to face off against Scott Jorgensen on tomorrow nights UFC 177 card (Sat. August 30, 2014), in his debut for the promotion. Now 6-0 as a pro, the Olympic Wrestler was set to face off against “Young Guns” in a bantamweight affair. My use of past tense in that sentence was not misplaced. Cejudo has been withdrawn from the UFC 177 card, and Jorgensen removed from the event completely. Thomas Gerbasi of UFC.com said the following on Cejudo: “Due...

Dana White: We Want To Do Tyron Woodley vs. Hector Lombard

Posted on August 29, 2014, 12:15 PM by Buster Evans
Fresh off his first round knockout over Dong Hyun Kim in the co-main of UFC Fight Night 48 last Saturday, former Strikeforce title challenger Tyron Woodley said he would like to fight "The Immortal" Matt Brown next as it was the fight which stood out to him the most: "A fight against Matt Brown seems most interesting. Fans want it. He has a ton of heart and is tough as nails. Really looking at the landscape of the division, this fight stood out first. Granted it's one of the toughest fights, but it's a good...

UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw hopes to cement himself as the best 135 pound fighter on the planet this weekend (August 30, 2014) when he faces off against former champion Renan Barao in the main event of UFC 177.   The bout is a rematch of their first clash at UFC 173, which was just over three months ago, where Dillashaw caused one of the biggest upsets in UFC history by  handing the Brazilian his first loss in over nine years. In their first meeting “The Viper” battered Barao...

After No. 8-ranked middleweight Michael Bisping got back in the win column with an impressive fourth round stoppage of Cung Le in the main event of last Saturday’s (August 23, 2014) UFC Fight Night 48 from Macau, China, “The Count” immediately continued his war of words with No. 5-ranked Rockhold. Bisping and Rockhold have a bit of a history dating back to a sparring session that Bisping said made him the “unofficial Strikeforce champion.” Their talk extended into quite the drawn...

The recent news that Chan Sung Jung was removed from his slot on the upcoming UFC Fight Night 53 card was not so great for fans of “KZ”. The South Korean has once again taken a setback in his career due to injury, and things aren't exactly looking great for him right now. Being this banged up at just 27 is not a good sign. It was revealed today that a replacement has been found for the absent “Korean Zombie” in Sweden, as Max Holloway steps up to face Akira Corassani in Sweden. God...

UFC Set To Introduce Random Drug-Testing Program

Posted on August 28, 2014, 03:23 PM by Buster Evans
The UFC has received a lot of criticism in the last few years for its approach on performance-enhancing drug (PED's) use in MMA but that is about to change as the promotion have revealed they are going to take a major step towards removing PED's from the sport by implementing random, out-of-competition drug-testing later this year. UFC vice president of regulatory affairs Marc Ratner told ESPN.com the promotion is in talks with multiple independent drug-testing agencies, such as Voluntary Anti-Doping Association(VADA)...
