Ronda Rousey Will Look To Return This Summer, Cat Zingano Is Next In Line

Ronda Rousey’s dominance of the UFC women’s bantamweight division continued last night, in the main event at UFC 170. ‘Rowdy’ displayed much improved striking and made short work of Sara McMann. The stoppage may have been questionable, but the result was clear enough.

The inevitable question of who is next in line for the title shot was asked at last night’s post fight presser and Rousey feels that Cat Zingano or Alexis Davis should be next in line.

“I think Cat Zingano deserves to fight for the title at some point, but she’s still coming back from the injury. I thought Alexis Davis did an amazing job tonight. It’s up to the UFC,” Rousey said.

Davis won a close split decision on the UFC 170 main card, extending her win streak to five and bolstering her case for a shot and Rousey’s title. Zingano was slated to get the title shot after her scheduled stint on TUF 18 opposite ‘Rowdy’, but has been plagued with injuries ever since.

“”The poor girl’s been through a lot over the last year so we’ll see what happens with her, but I agree with Ronda, she’s next in line,” Dana White said.

Rousey also spoke about the timescale for her next title defense, stating that a summer return is on the cards:

“I always tell Dana I’ll fight on 24 hours notice whenever he needs me.  I’m filming Entourage in the middle of March and then The Expendables comes out in August, but I usually have a hard time staying away from the gym so I’m probably going to get bored within a couple of weeks.  Whenever they need me, I’ll fight,” Rousey said.  “It seems like late summer seems like kind of a cool time, but I might want to fight sooner than that.”

Zingano’s healing process seems to be the deciding factor on who gets the shot here. Providing all goes well, it will be an August (ish) showdown between Rousey and Zingano. ‘Alpha’ will have the odds stacked against her against Rousey, especially after being out of action for a year. Will this be another quick win for Rousey?
