Ricardo Mayorga Misses Weight By 20lbs. Wins Bizarre MMA Debut

Former WBA/WBC Welterweight and WBC Light Middleweight champion boxer Ricardo Mayorga is set to make his MMA debut today (3rd May), even though Mayorga weighed in at 175.9lbs. , that’s 20.9lbs. over the 155lb. limit. Yes you read it right, Mayorga is due to face Wesley Tiffer in a Lightweight scrap under the Omega Promotions banner.

The event labelled ‘Battle of the Americas’ is set to take place in Nicaragua, and surprisingly the Nicaraguan Combat Sports Commission has allowed the fight to continue. Fans and Tiffer made there disappointments known to Mayorga by booing and jeering the hometown man. ‘El Matador, seemingly annoyed, began shouting and a scuffle ensued when Mayorga got in Tiffer’s face and began shoving his foe.

Mayorga is known for his brash, cocky persona outside of the ring, he is often photographed drinking and smoking heavily. Only time will tell if Mayorga’s venture in to the MMA world will be of any consequence. Stay tuned to Lowkick for results as they come in.

*UPDATE* Ricardo Mayorga has won his professional debut as an MMA fighter after defeating Wesley Tiffer by TKO in the second round. After having Mayorga mounted for the full 10 minutes, Tiffer attempted an armbar, which Mayorga was able to muscle out of before dropping an illegal knee to his opponents spine. Tiffer was deemed unfit to continue and the Nicaraguan officials could only see fit to award Mayorga the TKO after his blatant foul.

The fight was followed by a rather unnecessarily lavish firework display and an expected show of bravado from Mayorga.
