Invicta 18 Results: Alexa Grasso Earns Decision Victory Over Jodie Esquibel

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, July 26, 2016) will come in the form of Invicta 18. Headlining the card are Alexa Grasso and Jodie Esquibel, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Alexa Grasso (7-0) and Jodie Esquibel (5-1) met in a strawweight bout as the main event of Invicta 18. A solid main event. In round 1, Esquibel looked to take the fight to ground early but after clinching, she let it go. Grasso was mixing up her combos nicely. Esquibel clinched and Grasso went for a takedown but it was stuffed. Grasso took her down but Esquibel got right back to her feet and Grasso tagged her off the break. Esquibel went for a takedown and Grasso landed some hard elbows while standing up against the fence. Grasso landed a big right hand as they separated. Grasso clinched and landed a knee to the body. In round 2, Esquibel was trying to mix up she strikes but continued to walk into strikes. In round 3, Esquibel was tiring down in this round and Grasso was landing her jabs. Esquibel, who was bleeding, kept pushing forward and they had a good round of striking. Grasso got the unanimous decision.

Agnieszka Niedzwiedz (7-0) and Christine Stanley (5-1) met in a bantamweight bout as the co-main event of Invicta 18. A one-sided fight to say the least. In round 1, Stanley was landing leg kicks early while Niedzwiedz kept with her jab. Niedzwiedz with a combo that had Stanley back peddling. Niedzwiedz with a trip takedown but Stanley got right back to her feet. In round 2, Niedzwiedz took her down and pressed her up against the fence. Niedzwiedz landed some big shots before Stanley stood up. Stickers kept falling off the cage. Stanley separated, and Niedzwiedz kept coming forward. Stanley was tired at the end of the round. Niedzwiedz scored a double leg takedown and got side control with seconds left in the round. In round 3, Niedzwiedz scored another takedown to begin the round and got side control. Niedzwiedz worked for a submission, but they were stood up. Niedzwiedz clinched with her, and they exchanged to end the round. Niedzwiedz scored the unanimous decision victory.

Lynn Alvarez (6-3) and Mizuki Inoue (11-4) meet at Invicta FC 18. In round 1, Inoue was practically chasing her down at the beginning and just hunting. Inoue clinched with her and landed some big knees to the body. Inoue took her down and got full mount. Alvarez forced her back to half guard moments later. Total domination by Inoue. In round 2, Inoue took her down after clinching with her and landed some big shots from back mount. Inoue went for an armbar for the win.

Cindy Dandois (6-2) and Jessamyn Duke (3-4, 1 NC) met in a bantamweight bout at Invicta 18. Dandois took her down right out of the gate and got half guard but Duke kicked her off. Duke clinched with her. Duke got her in a headlock and took her down. Dandois swarmed her with strikes and this one is over in the first round.

Megan Anderson (6-2) and Peggy Morgan (4-3) met in a featherweight bout at Invicta 18. Anderson rocked her early in the round. Morgan clinched with her up against the fence and landed some shots. Anderson separated and landed some big shots. Morgan’s left side of her face was swelling up and eating some big shots. Morgan clinched with her again. Anderson finished her with strikes.

Mizuki Simpson and Simona Soukupova met in a strawweight bout at Invicta 18. In round 1, both fighters were hesitant at first but as the round went on they started opening up. Soukupova was pressing forward more but Simpson was doing more damage. They exchanged to end the round. In round 2, more of the same in the second round. Simpson was still keeping up the pace. In round 3, Simpson came out and clinched with her up against the fence. Soukupova landed a big elbow as they separated with two rounds to go. Soukupova dropped her with a right hand but Simpson got back up to her feet and Soukupova swarmed her with strikes but survived.

Aspen Ladd (3-0) and Jessica Hoy (1-0) met in a bantamweight bout at Invicta 18. Ladd put a beatdown on Hoy. In round 1, Ladd came right at her out of the gate and back peddled Hoy. Hoy was circling a lot. Hoy clinched and pressed her up against the fence. They battled for position while in this position. They separated near the end of the round and Ladd landed a combo. Ladd swarmed her with strikes and Hoy clinched with her. In round 2, Hoy clinched about 30-seconds into the fight and landed a series of knees to the body of Ladd while up against the fence. Ladd scored a takedown about two minutes into the round and got side control where she landed knees to the body. Ladd got full mount a few moments later and rained down elbows. Ladd got back mount and poured on the strikes to finish the fight.

Opening the main card was Sijara Eubanks (1-1) vs. Amberlynn Orr (0-0) in a bantamweight bout. This one did not last long at all. Eubanks comes out aggressive and landed a big overhand right. Eubanks took her down and got on top in half guard. Orr went for an armbar off her back but Eubanks got out of it and landed some big right hands. Eubanks got side control and landed some more big shots. Eubanks finished her with elbows.
