John Moraga vs. Justin Scoggins Set For UFC Fight Night 50 In Connecticut
September 5’s growing UFC Fight Night 50 event from the Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Ledyard, Connecticut, added what should be a hard-nosed flyweight match-up today.
No. 9-ranked former title challenger John Moraga has signed on to face Justin Scoggins. The MMA Lab product was last seen losing a TKO to John Dodson at June’s UFC Fight Night 42 from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Prior to that, Moraga picked up a decision win over the gritty Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 35 in January to rebound from his July 2013 loss to surging 125-pound champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. He also owns a win over current UFC flyweight title challenger Chris Cariaso.
Scoggins saw his previously spotless record disappear to Ortiz at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 19 Finale on July 6. He had won his only two other Octagon bouts over Will Campuzano and Richie Vaculik.
Featuring a pivotal middleweight main event of Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Gegard Mousasi, UFC Fight Night 50 will air live on FOX Sports 1. Alistair Overeem will also take part in his first bout since switching camps to Greg Jackson’s; “The Reem” will take on heavyweight veteran Ben Rothwell in the night’s co-main event.
