Jessica Eye Responds To Report That UFC 166 Drug Test Failure Was Marijuana Related

Jessica Eye has been in the MMA headlines lately, but not really for the right reasons. News recently emerged that the bantamweight scrapper had failed a drugs test and received a probationary suspension, meaning she could still fight at UFC 170 against Alexis Davis.

UFC 166 was the night in question, where Eye beat Sarah Kaufman over three rounds. The subsequent failed drugs test meant that the win was changed to a no-contest, and rumours began to spread about the possible reason for the failed test. It was first thought that blood thinners for an existing ailment were the cause, but other news has emerged since.

Bloody Elbow first reported that ‘reliable sources close to the athletic commission’ have confirmed that the drug test was failed due to marijuana being found in a urine sample. Eye did not take kindly to the report, and sent out the following via twitter, before deleting her account:

“Lmao …. Just going to smile back and ignore all the BS … Y’all can speculate whatever you want .. ok show me the test result . Come on show me the proof you talk so much shit about. You can’t can u . Nah didn’t think so”

“As my dad says ” f- these pre Madonna mother …. Do your work in cage ” peace out everyone done on twitter”

“brentbrookhouse you’re a shit starter. Thanks again buddy. Hope we get to meet one day soon so I can personally tell you how I feel .”

The UFC is yet to confirm reports either way, but it does seem odd that she received no actual suspension. Perhaps this is the first sign that the athletic commissions and UFC are starting to ease their stance on Mary Jane in combat sports? Or perhaps there is a simpler explanation?

There is always the chance that Eye is on medicinal marijuana and that the ‘source’ close to the commission has their wires crossed. Whatever the cause, Eye still gets to fight at UFC 170, but she will do so after clearly being affected by the media controversy after 166.

I don’t think that veiled threats against a news reporter will get Eye too far, and she doesn’t appear to directly deny the rumours/accusations about the failed drugs test. I’m on the fence on this one, any ideas?

  • I don't understand why hemp is a banned substains? It doesn't enhance your performance in any way and it is by far the safest painkiller out there. Painkillers, and especially prescription pain killers, are responsible for thousends of death's each year world wide. Hemp has never killed anyone, and people have been using it for over 5000 years. It's natural, it's safe and it works, what's the problem??? If the athletic commisions are about protecting athletes, they should be banning all opioids and acid based painkillers and only allowing athlets to use hemp for pain relief because it's not only safe, it's good for you.

    • Cpt., as a physician I am legally allowed to prescribe marijuana (in Canada). We frown on the smoked version though because of similar cancer and emphysema risks to cigarettes. We do have much safer pain relievers than marijuana. I do have patients who have died from hemp based derivatives. Using vaporizers and orally ingestible forms are safer than smoked forms but it is usually the smoked forms that athletes are getting caught for. In my patients with chronic pain who are using marijuana I can tell you that its pain relieving benefits are modest at best but honestly – frequently it does nothing (for some people's pain nothing works).

      • THIS IS BIG NEWS!!!!!

You should immediately report the cases that you have had die of marijuana!!! You would make a name for yourself being the first ever physician reporting this!!! Your findings go against studies done at Yale were the research showed that you would have to smoke over 370grams of marijuana in under one hour for it to be deadly. And the thing that would kill you in that case would be that you wouldn't get any oxygen because of all of the smoke you'd be inhaling. THERE IS NOTHING IN HEMP THAT IS TOXIC AND WOULD CAUSE DEATH. Not even in hemp based derivatives. If you are of a different opinion please tell me what exactly it is in hemp that is deadly, and as I said before be sure to send in your findings 'cause that sh'* will make you famous.

And sorry to keep raining on your parade, but please tell me which painkiller is safer than hemp?? Every painkiller pill out there is toxic to your body. My grandpa got hemp from me when he was in pain before passing, he said that it was the only thing that helped, except morphine, but morphine made him sleepy and depressed so he preferred hemp.

And of course it's better not to smoke it, it's always better to eat it. But since it's still illegal in most of the world, and quite expensive, most people perfer to smoke it. You don't need that much, and you can better control the "high".

Me personally, I'm getting old, and rolling with the young'uns bruises me up, makes my joints and muscles hurt and instead of taking ibuprofen or some other toxic, I throw a few buds in the mixer for my evening smoothie, and I recommend it to everyone that are using pills right now. Hemp is far safer (and even has health benefits) than the chemical stuff. Just google it and you'll find tons of scientific-studies proving this. Don't belive the propaganda, read the studies.

And please Dr. Stephenson try to find me a scientific-study that proves that hemp is physically bad for you. I've had a standing offer of 500€ om many sites, for over 5 years now, to anyone that finds a study that proves that. Still haven't had to pay anyone.

There is no scientific facts to back up your statement. None what so ever. It's all hearsay, propaganda and folklore, something a physician shouldn't believe in, you should believe in the scientific-facts, so please educate yourself. Harvard have many fine studies on hemp, that's one place for you to start.

        • captain idiot – Nobody wants to read your 26 paragraph post just because you're " Paranoid" that you may be at health risk for blazing like no tomorrow is your own problem little donkey.

  • obvious that it was probably a prescribed medication and not a recreational drug or PED and the only real infraction was not disclosing it. Not sure why people are making this into a big deal. The athletic commission and UFC would have penalized her with suspension if PED or drugs.

  • Pre Madonna: I would be concerned that too many blows to the cranium are affecting (note the proper spelling of this word, Rory Kernaghan) her cognitive abilities but, judging by what I have read on this site from non-MMA combatants, the problem extends far beyond head injuries…

    • You're a troll. Go ahead and "sharp" yourself again.

    • LOL always good to have a fan. dude if you are that easily offended by a single grammatical error, why don't you kist mi as5?

  • Just admit you got high. Helll 1/2 my nation is stoned on drugs now days.I have to take Federal drug tests for my job, so choice is of no importance even if I wanted too.

  • If it's nothing why not just tell us Jessica what it was or tell us it's a private matter.
