GSP will fight Anderson Silva for 50 mil’?

5672081910 a436fb6061 oAccording to a well-respected MMA journalist, Mike Straka, UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre will demand no less than 50 million dollars to get inside the Octagon with Anderson “The Spider” Silva. Such number would without a doubt make Georges St. Pierre the highest earner (per fight) in combat sports history, and perhaps one of the highest earners in sports history as a whole.

Straka appeared on MMAFighting.com‘s MMA Beatdown show, alongside Luke Thomas, Ariel Helwani, and Chuck Mindenhall.

Here’s the quote (via Vendetta Fighter) from the panel discussion at 3:30 minute mark of the video:

“I was told by somebody very close to Georges; that Georges today, makes close to eight million dollars a fight.

So to fight Anderson Silva, he’s going to ask for fifty million dollars. Five-zero, because he said that Georges has ten fights left in his career, at eight million a fight.

But he believes that Anderson could actually hurt him, could physically hurt him and end his career. So to take that chance he wants fifty million dollars, and that’s exactly the number he’s going to go to Dana White with”

So as you can see, the talk around GSP’s proposed superfight with Anderson Silva goes into a fifth gear. The French-Canadian champion is yet to make his decisions, as fans and experts alike are becoming skeptical that this fight will come into fruition. It becomes clear that St. Pierre is more interested in fighting Nick Diaz, while Anderson Silva is not really excited to have Jon Jones as a superfight alternative to GSP. One way or another, 2013 promises to be a very interesting year in the world of Mixed Martial Arts.
