Free Fight Of The Day: Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua vs. Alistair Overeem

Back in February 2007 guys like Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Alistair Overeem were knocking people silly in Pride FC. Overeem was a light-heavyweight at the time and at Pride 33 ‘The Reem’ was looking to avenge his TKO loss to Rua in 2005.

‘Shogun’ was widely regarded as one of the best light-heavyweights in the world during his time in Pride and for good reason, he was a talented knock out artist who always came to brawl. His opponent Overeem was also known for his Dutch kickboxing skills and knockout power.

Check out the full fight below and re-live the good old days.

  • To be fair for where Overeem was in his career, a very bad time, he did pretty well until the end

    • Alistair became huge and so did the UFC, how things have changed… Seeing a good old pride fight always puts you in a good mood.

  • 3.37 first round knockout by Allistair was doing great on the feet until he landed on his back. The big thing you notice in this video is Allistairs size difference compared to where he is today.

  • Also shows Overeem isn't all size and power, he can do very well going skill for skill against the wold's best

  • This was when Rua was at his best but I doubt we'll ever see this standard from Rua again.

  • Overreem "Has anyone seen my chin?"

  • classic shogun in his prime.
