Frankie Edgar Shoots On Aldo’s History Of Pulling Out Of Fights

Ever since suffering a devastating thirteen-second knockout loss to UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, former 145-pound king Jose Aldo has gotten a lot more vocal since the inception of his boiling rivalry with the brash Irishman.

The former Brazilian champ is now set to step inside the Octagon with No. 2-ranked Frankie Edgar, at the colossal UFC 200 event set to go down this July. Edgar himself has been campaigning for a title bout for quite some time, and in a recent interview with FOX Sports Edgar dished on Aldo’s newfound habit for trash-talking:

Frankie Edgar 2“It’s definitely out of character. I don’t know if it’s someone saying it for him or what, but it doesn’t even make sense some of the stuff he’s saying,” Edgar said.

“He needs to think maybe about how it’s coming out a little bit. He’s calling Conor (McGregor) “soap hands”, you can’t say that about someone that knocked you out with one punch. It doesn’t make sense to me.

“I think he’s just following suit. We’re all kind of following suit these days. Conor showed us the way.”

Edgar then pointed out the fact that Aldo has a long resume of pulling out of fights, as the former champ has pulled out of at least four different scheduled fights in his UFC career:

“We were supposed to fight earlier and he had a little boo-boo on his foot from a motorcycle accident and we had to reschedule. I highly doubt he’s ever fought injured,” Edgar said.

“If he did, he must fight injured all the time because how much does this guy pull out of fights?”

“I’m just trying to focus on him but I won’t be surprised if that happens, obviously,” Edgar said. “You’re seeing it happen in every weight class, not just us, but especially with Aldo. Anything can happen.

“I’m just going to train hard for Aldo and if we need to make an adjustment, we can do it on the fly.”

Aldo and Edgar are set to thrown down at UFC 200 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 9, 2016.
