Frankie Edgar Knocks Out Chad Mendes In First Round

The main event of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 22 saw former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight title holder Frankie Edgar (20-4-1) do battle with Chad Mendes (17-4). The two combatants were vying for another crack at 145-pound gold. Many wondered what would be the deciding factor of this bout.

A left hook was “The Answer.”

As expected the action picked up quickly. Mendes landed a solid leg kick that caught Edgar off balance. “The Answer” threw one of his own, but it was checked. Edgar was able to get in a right hand. “Money” was popped with a counter right hand. Edgar stunned Mendes with a huge left hook for the knockout victory.

Ouch, you could just see the disappointment in Chad’s eyes. Always inches away from gold only to have it snatched away. He’s been knocked out against the three top featherweights in Edgar, Aldo and McGregor.
Really impressive on Frankie’s part. He’s been around for so long, yet always exceeds expectations in such a rapidly evolving sport. Before the fact, I thought that if anyone was going to do the knocking out, it would be Chad. Boy was I wrong. I think he would give both Aldo and McGregor fits, standing and on the mat. Though he still needs work in defending the kicks for Aldo.

Oh, and this pretty much dispels the whole “full-camp Mendes” thing that Conor haters went on about. Chad’s footwork here looked exactly like it did against McGregor, from what I remember. Maybe I have to watch them again.

Nice £350 for me, wish I put more money on the Holm KO aswell.
