Former UFC FW Title Challenger Mark Hominick Retires After 32 Fight Career

It was announced yesterday on Fuel TV’s “UFC Tonight” that former contender Mark “The Machine” Hominick will be hanging up his MMA gloves to spend more time with his family.  An open post to fans was released on Mark Hominick’s Official Page, and it reads as follows.

Over the last 11 years I have had the opportunity to follow my passion. As I move forward to the next chapter of my careeer I am reminded how fortunate I have been. To my family, friends, fans and supporters; you have always been a huge part of the journey and I truly appreciated all you have done for me. With a young family at home and another daughter on the way, I know the commitment I need to make, just as I have in my athletic career.

I will always be involved in the sport and will be always indebted to the UFC, a professional sports organization second to none.

Thank you all for the support all over the course of my career, it has truly meant the world to me.

Mark Hominick

When reflecting on the career of Mark Hominick, the first fight that most pundits will point to will be his spirited Featherweight Championship outing against Jose Aldo in the co-main event of UFC 129: St-Pierre vs Shields.  Hominick and Aldo received Fight Of The Night, as Hominick continued to press on despite an onslaught from the champion Aldo that resulted in a brutal hematoma on his head.  Hominick was no stranger to Fight Of The Night bonuses, as he also received one in a unanimous decision defeat to Eddie Yagin.

Hominick fans can also look back fondly on “The Machine’s” fight with standup specialist Yves Jabouin at WEC 49 in 2010, which ended up on ballots around the MMA world as a contender for ‘Fight Of The Year’ that year.  Hominick defeated Jabouin by TKO in a spirited second round.  Sadly, Hominick’s last impression he left with the UFC faithful was a 4 fight losing streak capped off by a decision loss to Pablo Garza.  Hopefully, Mark Hominick is remembered for more than this final streak, and is remembered instead for bringing his best every time he fought.  We here at LowKick wish you the best in future endeavors.
