Dana White: Georges Needs To Do The Right Thing And Fight Johny Hendricks Again

The dust had barely settled on UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre’s highly controversial win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 when talk shifted to GSP’s (sort of) retirement. The champ told Joe Rogan that he had some personal issues he needed to attend to and would take some time off MMA to do so.

But UFC president Dana White was livid at the decision rendered in the fight. White sang an entirely different tune after UFC 167, believing that St. Pierre was gifted a wrong decision. “Did he say he wants to retire? He didn’t say ‘I’m gonna retire, I’m hanging it up. It’s been great everybody. Thanks a lot for all the years. See you later.’ He said “I’m gonna take some time off.’ First off, that decision that happens, you don’t just say, ‘Oh I’m going to take a while time off. Maybe I’ll be back, maybe I won’t.’ … You owe it to the fans, you owe it to the belt, you owe it to this company, and you owe it to Johny Hendricks give him that opportunity for him to fight again. What happened tonight is not Georges St. Pierre’s fault, he didn’t choose himself the winner. I know Georges as a man, I know the type of person that he is and the right thing needs to be done here. The guy is going to go home, rest and fight Johny Hendricks again.””

Many think St. Pierre will return after he’s had time to rest and heal from the brutal beatdown he incurred at the hands of Hendricks. It’s true that no one has ever put St. Pierre to the test the way that “Bigg Rigg” did last night. St. Pierre was obviously the fighter who suffered more damage in the rousing title fight.

Will he return to the Octagon anytime soon? And if so, will it be against Hendricks, the man who many feel is the rightful owner of the coveted UFC Welterweight title belt?
