Dan Henderson promises KO or a three-round beatdown against Lyoto Machida

On February 23rd, MMA legend Dan Henderson will be looking to prove he deserves to be the next in line for a shot at Jon Jones’ UFC Light Heavyweight title, facing Lyoto Machida in the co-main event at UFC 158. Speaking about his upcoming bout with “The Dragon”, Henderson admitted Machida is a dangerous opponent, but still declared he will be looking to deliver a convincing performance inside the cage. At 42, Hendo is currently one of the senior fighters in the UFC, with 37 top level MMA bouts under his belt.

  • I love Hendo but I think he is Dragon food.

    • @Choke – I agree. Love Hendo but I don't think he will lay a hand on Lyoto.

      • @michael this should be a good fight. i hope machida brings it and is next to challenge bones. but i think it will be a back and forth war.

its hard to make a prediction but i think hendo will win this. since its only 3 rounds??

      • I guess I'll go against the local grain here and stick with my prediction. Hendo in the 2nd or third by KO. 8))

        • @ Entity

There is so much upset about these day, that I wouldn't be surprised.

*My bench-mark for surprise = finding Gina Carano in my bed, not naked, but not-exactly-clothed, either. 🙂 …..

      • @ichokeshit: are you joking, machida will only win if it will be a running contest.

        • Dan will be lucky to see the 3rd round.

          • yeah because for sure hendo will catch out of breath chasing machida, machida only trains to run because that will be his gameplan against hendo, ohhh my… somebody will look like bisping again.

          • @ Baby, when you grow up you will learn the first rule of fighting is don't get hit. Your narrow definition of a good fight as a strike fest results in your inability to both enjoy many fights and also limits your inability to understand a more complex fight.

IF Machida "runs" and Hendo doesn't know that ahead of time and train for that then that is his mistake and he will pay for it. Welcome to the fight world where everything doesn't always go your way. Don't be a baby about it.

          • @michael stephensen, money of people should be worth it, they should give people a good show, its to be knock out or knock your opponent, not just to win by running around to win by a dcision, they are the co-main event. Most of the people pay big bucks to see a fight, not for a gas tank.

  • I'll pick loyto to win this fight based on elusiveness and speed.

Dan needs to land the H bomb to win this fight but Lyoto will be on his bike most the night i imagine just throwing the odd knees and straight left.

  • If Hendo KO's Machida I will get out of my chair and slow clap for this man.
He just may do it – this is Hendo. I never thought he would catch Bisping the way he runs away and points guys.
He just has to keep the pressure on.

  • Hard one to call… fan of both guys. Dan's head and chin are made or granite…. even if Machita lands a shot like he did with Bader… I think Dan can handle it. Could turn out to be 3 rounds of dirty boxing and grinding it out if Dan can close the distance and control him. Then again… if Machita stays to the outside..

    Damn… can't wait…

  • Win or lose, I just hope the fight is exciting. As most are probably fans of both these MMA legends, it would be safe-to-say that the only way we could be disappointed would be if we had some kind of Maynard / Guida fiasco, with a lot of running around and not a lot of actual contact. I doubt it will go down that way and it's the only thing that could ruin this bout. I'm picking Lyoto. If Dan wins, great.

  • Would've said Lyoto before the last couple of years. Dan's striking looks rudimentary, but the speed he lands that right hand (and some hard left hooks) makes him incredibly dangerous. I think Lyoto does well for a while, but then gets flustered when Hendo lands flush. After some jockeying Hendo opens up the pressure, and puts Lyoto away in the second. However, Machida probably should be the betting favorite.

    Ps. Fuck Dan Henderson

  • great fight! cant wait!

  • Lyoto will win but i would rather see Hendo vs Jones first for some reason.

  • I doubt it will be a three round beatdown. More likely a three round chase.

Henderson can't take Lyoto down–nor do I believe he wants to.

So what's he going to do? He'll cock that H-Bomb and chase Lyoto around like a Bisping–firing huge bombs–which will probably whistle through empty air.

Machida–when viewing this one-dimensional threat–will probably time the bombs and counter with a crushing straight left or a knee.

If the fight goes to the 2nd or 3rd round, Hendo will be tired and slower–while Machida will be relatively fresh. That is the danger time for Hendo. Round one is the danger time for Machida.

I'm looking forward to the fight.

  • love Dan but I want to see Jones VS Machida

  • Dragon Wars all the way!!!

  • Was hoping this would be a 5 round fight, hopefully it will be a 3 round war,if it's like Hendo vs Shogun type of fight even better!!!

  • You guys really think Dans gonna land the H bomb on Machida?!….lmao…it's certainly a possibility don't get me wrong…..but highly unlikely IMO….i love Hendo but he hasn't got anywhere near the reaction time and speed of Lyoto….to either catch him with a shot or to avoid the incoming strikes when Lyoto pounces in….Lyoto also has more ways to win but hey…..it's only my humble opinion….personally, I really like both guys but I would rather see Machida vs Bones again 🙂

  • Dan shouldn't even be fighting now he's on the TRT also. In fact anyone on TRT in MMA is only doing it because of steroid abuse earlier in their careers. Compete naturally or don't compete at all. Dan is a cheating fuck same as so many now. Hope he gets a KO akin to Overeem another cheating fuck.
