Countdown To UFC 182: Donald Cerrone vs. Myles Jury

cerrone v jury

UFC 182 is fast approaching, and it’s turning out to be one of the most anticipated cards in recent memory. Headlined by a light heavyweight title grudge match between reigning champ Jon “Bones” Jones and Daniel “DC” Cormier, the card should start off the New Year with a bang.

However, the magnitude of the main event may be causing some fans to over-look and forget about the co-main event. The co-main event features a very pivotal lightweight encounter between the surging veteran Donald Cerrone, and highly touted undefeated prospect Myles “Fury” Jury.

“Cowboy” Cerrone has been on an absolute tear as of late, winning his last five bouts and currently sitting at No. 4 in the lightweight rankings. Jury is also riding a lengthy win streak of six straight, earning him a spot at No. 8 in the rankings.

“Cowboy” is of course known for his decorated Muay Thai kickboxing skills and his lethal kicks. He is a force on the feet and has given many of his opponents problems in this area. However, Cerrone is also highly skilled on the mat, owning 15 submission wins to his name.

Jury is a younger up-and-comer at only 26 years old, and he expresses the new breed of mixed martial artists, being strong in almost every area. “Fury” is very lanky, and uses movement very well to land his strikes. He also has a solid wrestling game paired with well-rounded grappling.

Although they may be very similar and have similar strengths, one thing is for sure and that is that Jury has never faced someone the caliber of Cerrone. “Cowboy” is a top tier opponent who has remained around the top of the rankings for years now so it will be interesting to see how the bout plays out.

A win for Jury would be the biggest of his career and win for Cerrone would be another contender that he has knocked off of his list. It is obviously a huge fight for both men. Which lightweight will prevail come fight night and solidify themselves as a true title contender?
