With Rockhold out, Jacare steps in to face Lorenz Larkin

Posted on November 29, 2012, 07:14 PM by Andreas Hale
Instead of calling the final Strikeforce card on January 12 "Champions," maybe they can call it "Former Champions" since all of the current champs are going down from injuries and a former champ will step in. After Luke Rockhold had to withdraw (or, in his words, never signed on) from a fight against Lorenz Larkin, former champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza has agreed to take on Larkin. Jacare, who held the Strikeforce middleweight title from 2010-2011 before losing a unanimous decision to Rockhold, has scored...

What's your most memorable moment from Strikeforce?

With Strikeforce shutting its doors after it has its loaded January 12 card, it is time for us to reflect on the promotion that had its fair share of great fights, great fighters and brought women's MMA to the masses. The little engine that Scott Coker could debuted back in 2006 with a main event featuring Frank Shamrock vs. Cesar Gracie that, at the time, broke the record for largest audience at an MMA event in North America with 18,265. Since that event, the promotion has seen fighters such as Nick Diaz,...

Adding to the blockbuster announcement that Ronda Rousey and now Miesha Tate will join the UFC as the first two female fighters comes the confirmation that Strikeforce will officially close doors after a January 12th blowout show. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker stated the following in a press release, courtesy of MMAFighting.com:"We've built an absolutely stacked card for Oklahoma City and the Showtime viewers. We have three awesome title fights featuring some of the best fighters to ever grace the Strikeforce...

Luke Rockhold will defend his Strikeforce middleweight title against Lorenz Larkin at the January 12 Strikeforce event in a location TBA.  Last month, an injury to Rockhold played a major part in shutting down the November 3rd Strikeforce show in Oklahoma City where Rockhold was scheduled to defend against Larkin. Shortly after Rockhold went down with a wrist injury, Strikeforce decided to can the entire card considering this fight and the main event between Frank Mir and Daniel Cormier was canceled because...

The future of Strikeforce remains cloudy

Posted on October 22, 2012, 11:19 AM by Andreas Hale
With two show cancellations in the past few months, fans have no idea what the future of Strikeforce holds. As a matter of fact, not even Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker has answers regarding whether the promotion will survive through 2013. In an interview with MMAFighting, Coker remains optimistic but is aware that those within the promotion are beginning to voice their concern. "We're looking at a show in January with Daniel Cormier, Luke Rockhold and Gilbert Melendez, and don't be surprised to see Ronda Rousey...

When Miesha Tate fell victim to Ronda Rousey's patented armbar in the first round of their highly anticipated Strikeforce Bantamweight title showdown in March, Tate was humbled, humiliated and had her prized possession taken from her. Her injured arm was nothing compared to her fractured psyche as the loss blew out the fire that she once had. The former champ had seriously considered walking away from the sport.  "That was at probably my lowest point of lows," Tate said in an interview with MMA Junkie....

With November's Strikeforce card going up in smoke, one has to wonder what the future will hold for the organization and one of it's top heavyweight, Daniel Cormier.  It appears that the organization will continue with a January card, but Cormier is not sure whether he will be fighting on that card as of yet. He still owes the organization one more fight before an expected move to the UFC. However, he has yet to be told if he will get a chance to face Mir or someone else. The heavyweight grand prix winner...

In the wake of the devastating injuries to headliners Frank Mir and Middleweight champion Luke Rockhold, Strikeforce has been forced to cancel its proposed November 3rd event as suspected. With rumors circling abound that the promotion would soon fold, speculation may prove to be true. However, Showtime and Strikeforce officials have not confirmed any shutdown of the promotion's fights, stating the following: "Due to a series of injuries, we were forced to cancel the upcoming card on Nov. 3, but are already...

Recently " Inside MMA" has reported that the television deal in place between Strikeforce and Showtime has fallen out. When the entire card featuring Gilbert Milendez's title bout with Pat Healy was cancelled, bad news seemed to be on the horizon. Now, with Frank Mir out of the November 3rd bout with Daniel Cormier, Luke Rockhold dropping out of the Middlweight title bout, and Sara McMann also off the card, this card is obviously in some serious doubt. What do you think fans? It may seem time for Zuffa...

The nasty injury bug isn't restricted to the UFC as it is now wreaking havoc throughout Strikeforce.  After dismantling September 29th's card after losing Gilbert Melendez, the injury bug moved on to the November 3rd card in Oklahoma City and swiftly took out UFC heavyweight Frank Mir, who was scheduled to make the jump to Strikeforce to face Daniel Cormier. However, it wasn't done tearing the card to shreds and claimed Luke Rockhold as its next victim. The Strikeforce middleweight champion was scheduled...

Recently Strikeforce World Heavyweight Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier has found himself in the news a lot due to his November 3rd fight rapidly approaching, with no opponent named. After Frank Mir endured a knee injury that forced him to withdraw, it was reported last weekend that Matt Mitrione was offered the bout with Cormier but turned down the UFC's offer to go to Strikeforce. Cormier, however, had his own opponent in mind, and took to Twitter to call for this fight: .@danawhite offer the fight to @hypeordie...

Strikeforce followed the footsteps of its big brother, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, by cancelling September 29th fight card in Sacramento, California, due to Gilbert Melendez's injury. El Nino was originally scheduled to fight Pat Healy, with sights on defending his title for the record-breaking 7th time in Strikeforce. Today, it was announced (via MMAJunkie.com) that all Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy fighters will be compensated for the decision to cancel the show. Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy...

Perhaps there is no end to the injuries plaguing MMA, as early brings the finding that Strikeforce Lightweight champion Gilbert Milendez has been injured and is out of his title fight with Pat Healy. The card was scheduled to air on Showtime this Saturday, but when network officials learned of Milendez's forced withdrawal, they said they would not air the event. Apparently this was enough to prompt Strikeforce to cancel the entire card altogether. Disappointing news for fight fans, many of whom believe that...

With the unfortunate news that Frank Mir was forced to withdraw from his November 3rd bout with Daniel Cormier in Strikeforce, a search for a new opponent ensues. An accomplished Heavyweight without a fight currently scheduled has stepped and said he would like the fight. That man is none other than Fabricio Werdum, the fighter who put an end to the legendary win streak of Fedor Emelianenko and has most recently been seen in the UFC destroying Roy Nelson and Mike Russow. Werdum was interviewed by MMAInterviews.tv,...
