Ben Henderson rumored to rematch Frankie Edgar at UFC 150 in Denver

022612henderson3According to a report from mmajunkie.com, Ben Henderson will defend his Lightweight title this summer, reportedly August 11 in Denver, Colorado. The match has not been officially announced as of yet. As the likely headliner of UFC 150, the fight will be a rematch of the close decision where Henderson gained the belt at February’s UFC 144.

Benson Henderson has been on a tear through the UFC’s Lightweight division since his arrival. The winner of four straight, he sits atop a stacked division of challengers all looking for the next crack at the belt. Cutting a good amount of weight to make the 155 lb. Limit, it appeared Henderson was too big and strong for Edgar. Possessing excellent wrestling, endless cardio, and power striking, Henderson is looking to be champion for years to come.

Frankie Edgar, while dethroned, is still near the top of all Lightweights in the world. His endless moving and excellent mix of boxing and wrestling makes him a tough task for anyone at 155 lbs. Although many called for him to move down a weight class to 145 lbs., Frankie Edgar stayed put and was granted the rematch he was looking for. Having granted two immediate rematches himself after fighting both B.J. Penn and Gray Maynard, UFC President Dana White felt that this was the right choice for the iron-willed Edgar.

The stage appears close to being set for another epic rematch this summer, as the UFC continues to put together blockbuster matches. The logjam that is the UFC Lightweight division will not be close to cleared until this rivalry is decided once and for all. Can Edgar overcome the beast Henderson has become to regain his coveted title? Or will Henderson remain at the top for quite some time?
