Bellator 159 Results: Joe Taimanglo Submits Darrion Caldwell

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, July 22nd, 2016) will come from in the form of Bellator 159. Headlining the card are Joe Taimanglo and Darrion Caldwell, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Darrion Caldwell and Joe Taimanglo met in in a bantamweight bout in the main event of Bellator 159. This was a fun fight. In round 1, Taimanglo was leaping in on his strikes early while Caldwell was keeping his distance. Caldwell went for a single leg takedown about a minute in but couldn’t get it. Caldwell took him down about two minutes into the round and got half guard. Caldwell took his back and then got mount but Taimanglo scrambled, and Caldwell got half guard on top. Caldwell went for the kimura, but Taimanglo scrambled and got back mount. Taimanglo went for a rear-naked choke but couldn’t get it. In round 2, Taimanglo came out and looked for the takedown but couldn’t get it. Good takedown defense by Caldwell. In round 3, Caldwell took him down to begin the round but was caught by Taimanglo, who locked in a guillotine choke for the win.

Dave Rickels and Melvin Guillard met in a lightweight bout in the co-main event of Bellator 159. This one did not last long. Guillard came out aggressive and was trying to get a takedown. Rickels with good takedown defense and was landing some solid knees to the body. Rickels caught him with a kick to the nuts. Once back to action, Rickels clinched and put him up against the fence. Guillard dropped him with an elbow. Guillard got on top in guard and landed some huge elbows that cut up open Rickels and won the fight by stoppage.

Bruna Vargas and Emily Ducote met in a strawweight featherweight bout at Bellator 159. This once ended violently. In round 1, Ducote stunned her while in the clinch with knees to the body. Ducote put her up against the fence and worked her over with strikes. Ducote took her down with a trip, but Vargas scrambled and got on top in half guard. Vargas landed some big shots from the top. In round 2, Ducote clipped her with a right hand and dropped her. Ducote swarmed her with strikes then got her back and locked in the rear-naked choke for the win.

Opening the Bellator 159 main card on Spike TV was a featherweight bout between Daniel Weichel and Emmanuel Sanchez. A solid fight to start the main card. In round 1, they exchanged early in the round, and then Weichel took him down with a double leg with a 1:30 left in the round. Sanchez scrambled, and Weichel got his back up against the fence. Sanchez stood up, and they went back to striking with about a minute left to go in the round. In round 2, Sanchez was working his jabs and getting in and out. Weichel answered with some big right hands. Weichel tagged in late in the round with some good combos. Sanchez was getting the better of him in this round with his strikes. Sanchez had some good footwork to set up his jabs and overhand strikes. Weichel clinched with him briefly and missed a swinging wheel kick to end the round. In round 3, Weichel came out and took him down. He got half guard and worked him over with strikes. Sanchez moved near to the cage. Sanchez got to his feet, and they exchange until the bell.
