Bellator 184 Results: Darrion Caldwell Decisions Eduardo Dantas


It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, October 6th, 2017) will come in the form of Bellator 184. Headlining the card are Eduardo Dantas (c) and Darrion Caldwell, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Eduardo Dantas (c) and Darrion Caldwell meet in a bantamweight title bout in the main event. In round 1, Caldwell caught a leg kick as Dantas landed a right hook. Caldwell went for a takedown and slammed him on his head. However, Dantas got right back to his feet. They separated and exchanged strikes to end the round. In round 2, Caldwell took him down with a quick single leg takedown. Dantas got up and walked him to his corner. They separated and were working leg kicks into their arsenal. Caldwell was looking to spin his way into offense but Dantas was all over it. Dantas went for a takedown but Caldwell blocked it. Caldwell rocked him with an elbow and Dantas went for a takedown but Caldwell stuffed it. Dantas recovered from being rocked. In round 3, Dantas went for a wild kick but Caldwell dragged him down. Dantas held on to the fence to stay up. Caldwell clinched with him up against the fence. Caldwell took him down and Dantas avoided a leg lock and got on top in half guard. Dantas mounted him and rained down strikes to end the round. In round 4, Caldwell once again immediately went for a takedown but Dantas stuffed it and got up against the fence. They reversed position four times in one sequence. Amazing. Dantas ended up with his back and worked him over with strikes trying to open up him for the choke. Caldwell reversed and got a closed guard. Dantas got to his feet and they clinched. In round 5, Caldwell landed a solid knee strike to the gut of Dantas. Later in the round, Caldwell was looking to take Dantas to “Suplex City” according to Mike Goldberg. Caldwell took him down with a minute to go. Dantas got to his feet and Dantas scored a takedown and went for a rear-naked choke to end the fight. The judges award the unanimous decision win to Caldwell to become the new bantamweight champion.

Daniel Straus and Emmanuel Sanchez meet in a featherweight bout in the co-main event. In round 1, Straus took him down and got side control. Straus busted open Sanchez. This led Sanchez scrambled out and locked in the kneebar, which was deep but Straus got out of it somehow and was able to get north-south position where he worked him over with strikes. Sanchez was able to get his back and went for a rear-naked choke. Straus got out of it, and Sanchez worked him over with strikes. In round 2, Straus scored a takedown right out of the gate and got half guard. Straus worked him over with strikes. Sanchez was able to scramble and took full mount late in the round and rained down some heavy strikes. Straus was covering up to the best of his ability and somehow survived. In round 3, Straus clinched and pressed up against the fence to get the takedown. Sanchez went for a kneebar, but Straus got out of it. Sanchez went for a triangle choke but let go and rained down elbow strikes. Sanchez made him tap out with a triangle choke for the win. 

Pat Curran vs. John Macapa is next in a featherweight bout. In round 1, they had a feeling out process early. Macapa was pressing forward and looking to get inside the range of Curran. Curran was cut on his right temple. Curran started to let his hands go and cracked him with two minutes to go. Macapa landed a solid right hand, and Curran answered with a hard leg kick. In round 2, a small cut was on the bridge of Macapa’s nose. They stayed close and was exchanging some solid shots often. Very close round. Curran scored a takedown with less than a minute to go and went to mount. However, Macapa was able to scramble right back to his feet to end the round. In round 3, Curran dragged him off the cage to the ground in the opening minute. However, Macapa was able to get back to his feet, but Curran was able to score yet another takedown and into half guard. Macapa got to his feet and continued to land leg kicks. Curran’s left knee was bruised and swollen badly. The judges gave the win to Curran by unanimous decision. 

Opening the main card on Spike TV is in a Joe Taimanglo vs. Leandro Higo in a bantamweight bout. In round 1, Taimanglo shot in for a takedown right out of the gate and ended up clinching with him right away. They separated with two minutes into the round. Taimanglo scored a brief takedown bug Higo got right back to his feet. They clinched again but separated shortly after that. Higo landed a good right hand and scored a takedown into guard. In round 2, Taimanglo caught him with a right hand in the opening minute, but High fired back with a running knee strike. Higo was able to score a takedown late in the round and worked him over from guard. With seconds left in the round, Taimanglo was able to wall walk to his feet. They exchange to end the round. In round 3, the pace slowed down as both guys were getting tired. They traded shots for the majority of the round. Taimanglo went for a standing rear-naked choke, but Higo got out of it. Taimanglo shot in for a takedown and Higo locked in the guillotine choke, but the bell sounded. The judges ended up giving the win to Higo by unanimous decision.
