Anthony Johnson Is Back, Faces Phil Davis At UFC 172

Big news for any Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson fans out there, as we learn that the former UFC Welterweight has re-signed with the promotion as a Light-Heavyweight. Johnson was cast out of the UFC after failing to make weight for his Middleweight bout against Vitor Belfort at UFC 142.

The infraction was the third during his first UFC stint, and proved enough for him to be cut following the subsequent loss. UFC prez Dana White announced today that ‘Rumble’ would be returning following a six-fight win streak in lesser promotions. He was most recently seen knocking out Mike Kyle at WSOF 8 on January 18.

His return bout will be a 205-pound match against Phil ‘Mr Wonderful’ Davis at UFC 172 in Baltimore. White also revealed that a Middleweight scrap between Luke Rockhold and Tim Boetsch has also been added to the card.

The former Strikeforce Middleweight boss will look to extend his UFC streak to two against Boetsch after dominating Costa Phillipou last month. Similarly, Boetsch is back in the win column after dropping two, recently taking a decision over CB Dolloway at UFC 166.

Headlined by the Light Heavyweight championship fight between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira, UFC 172 is gaining weight with the return of Johnson and Rockhold vs. Boetsch. Here is how the card looks so far:
