Andrei Arlovski is set to fight Frank Mir this Saturday night at UFC 191, but that fight might not have been the fight he was looking for. Both Arlovski and Mir have been talking about how great it is to fight one another even after the UFC tried to book it eleven years ago.

You won’t be hearing any trash talk between the two fighters, but most expected for Arlovski to fight current UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum next following UFC 187. Instead, Arlovski gets to fight Mir.

Most expect for the winner of Arlovski – Mir to fight for the title next.

When asked on the UFC 191 media call about a possible championship bout with Werdum, Arlovski was quick to not talk about him or a possible title fight in the future.

“I have no comments about Fabricio Werdum,” he said. “I thought Cain [Velasquez] was going to beat him, but you have a new champion and hopefully one day I’m going to fight him again.”

Andrei Arlovski is currently on a five-fight winning streak. He beat Mike Kyle in September of 2013 by unanimous decision, he beat Andreas Kraniotakes in November of that same year by second round KO and then returned to the UFC. He beat Brendan Schaub at UFC 174 by split decision and then knocked out Antonio Silva in September of 2014 by the first-round knockout. He knocked out 3 Travis Browne in the first round at UFC 187.

Arlovski switched back to talks of his fight with Mir and how he has the fire back in his eyes going up against Mir, who has had a recent resurgence in his own career, similar to Arlovski.

“I think I became a smarter person,” he stated on the UFC 191 Media Call. “I choose what is more important for me and I have a second run in UFC. I’m sure it’s going to be better than the first one. I don’t ever think it’s impossible to be a champion again.

“I just love what I’m doing right now and I feel great… I still have fire in my eyes,” he continued. “I’m just really grateful. It’s different than last time it was 10, 15 years ago. I still have that hope in my mind that I’m going to do this for my fans and just show that it’s not impossible to take a great competitor out on September 5.”

UFC 191 takes place this Saturday night (September 5, 2015) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
