Anderson Silva looks to expand talents to acting, but remains motivated by his love of fighting

5618641437 4f80db892d zIt’s no secret that UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is nearing the end of his legendary mixed martial arts career. He’s run through every single challenger the UFC has put in front of him, and even though Silva recently signed a 10-fight contract extension with the promotion, it’s hard to imagine too many scenarios that see that contract wholly fulfilled.

‘The Spider’ has a huge fight July 6th against Chris Weidman, the next guy who supposedly presents huge matchups problems for Silva, and then there’s always the rumor of a superfight with Jon Jones looming. However, Silva also has several other projects in the works, including his gym, and even acting, as he’s set to appear in two movies, “Rising Sun” with Terrence Howard, and “Tapped,” an MMA-focused picture. Silva recently spoke up to the New York Post to discuss his acting plans:

“It’s something I always wanted to do. And I want to be as good at acting as I am as a fighter. I want the fans to enjoy that as much as they enjoy me fighting. Much like my fighting, I want to do it right,” Silva said of easing the transition to acting. “I’m taking my time, taking my lessons. I’m waiting for the right moment.”

The champ is going to need a ton of acting lessons to get to the point where fans enjoy his movies as much as his jaw-dropping performances within the Octagon. Many fans think that he is looking past Chris Weidman at the moment, something that could be his downfall. An interview surface where Silva proclaimed that he was focused on learning English rather than fighting Weidman, and while he is learning a new language, the champ’s heart still remains in the Octagon:

“Speaking English is just as important as anything at this point in my career. It’s important to a lot of personal plans I have outside of the UFC.”

“What really motivates me is the love of the sport and the love of what I’m doing.”

Some good words from arguably the best fighter MMA has ever seen. He’s recently stated that Weidman has to be respected. But one cant help but wonder if Silva taking this much time for acting and English lessons is having an effect on his training and focus for one of the toughest opponents he’s ever seen. That’s up for interpretation as well, as Weidman hasn’t fought for almost a year and that was against a Mark Munoz arguably not at his best. Will it be just another day at the office for ‘The Spider’ on July 6th?
