Sherdog has reported that The California Kid Urijah Faber (23-4-1) has pulled out of his bantamweight debut against Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 50 Dominick Cruz vs. Joseph Benavidez.

Apparently Faber has suffered a knee injury earlier this week in training.  One might wonder if Faber is still dealing with the damage that Jose Aldo caused at WEC 48 due to a relentless barrage of leg kicks.  Faber will be most likely out of action until September, and the injury will not require surgery according to Faber’s agent Mike Roberts.

Faber was looking to make a successful debut at bantamweight after suffering 3 championship losses at lightweight, two of which were delivered at the hands of Mike Brown and the other by the current featherweight champ Jose Aldo.  We will have to wait to see how the 31 year old will do at his new weight class, and if he can return to his dominant ways.

Mizugaki sports a 13-4-2 record.  He has gone 2-3 after his loss to Miguel Torres for the title at WEC 40.  It is unclear at this point if Mizugaki will remain on the card.

Retire? he has been outmatched by one man(Aldo) as Brown merely caught him once and decisioned a win over him when he had broken hands from the second round. This guy is a menace to other fighters and probably one of the most exciting guys to watch in all of mma currently. I wish he stayed in Aldos division even though the guys there are bigger than him because he was the only guy in the division to show any chance at winning against Aldo especially in the first round before his leg was dismantled he was winning as many exchanges as Aldo even with the size and reach disadvantage. Urijah is a p4p contender not a wash up.

It seems to me that that these smaller guys are more prone to injury. The pack on so much muscle and have so much power. I dont think thier smaller frames can handle the abuse as well. You see alot of instances of these guys breaking their hands. Just a theory mind you. But look at Faber. If you didnt know how short he was or see him standing next to taller people (like that q&a with Brandon Vera), you'd swear that this guy was a monster. I know that bigger fighters break their hands and get injured too, just seems like the little guys are more prone to it. I think as long as he recovers he has a few years left but there is a limit to how many times ones body can fully heal after these injuries.

I was really looking forward to this match up. Mizugaki is a very tough opponent.
