Dominick Cruz shows his one-room apartment; Benavidez tops WEC 47 payday
Posted on March 9, 2010, 06:13 AM by Anton GurevichNewly crowned WEC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz proved everyone by showing his apartment that you can succeed without living in a fancy multi-room penthouse. Cruz declared that despite it's small space, his apartment helps him to stay focused on the only thing that is important to him, and that is Mixed Martial Arts:
"I live modestly by choice because the less bills that I have, the less debts that I have is the less I have to work and make money to support those needs. The less things that I have to live with, the more time I can devote to training. I try to devote every waking hour I have into MMA, because my goal is to be world champion and be the best fighter I can be."
The video was shot nearly two months ago, before Cruz' inspiring victory at the main event of WEC 47 in Columbus, Ohio, as now it looks like the "The Dominator" will have some extra cash after receiving a $18k paycheck for his triumph over Brian Bowles. Joseph Benavidez walked out the Nationwide Arena as a top earner of the night with $29k, after surprisingly defeating the former Champion Miguel Angel Torres.

3:00 dominick should make a prayer on how to spell "want" correctly
The purses are really "miserable." What a rip off...How are these fighters (esp. in the prel. fighters) supposed to pay their bills and their camps (gym/trainers/etc) on these low wages? A waiter can make $ 3000 or more in less than a week...I hope the WEC pays for their medicare, because they're badly sore and bloodied after every fight :(
he knew that coming into WEC. its a gamble. im sure he wanted to start off as a newcomer, work his way up and build his name. just like any business. and recently winning championship belt doesn't hurt future paydays either
Too bad his payment do not match his skills..
Kind of reminds me of Deigo the way this guy lives.
who thinks benavidez should fight cruz
How can you not like this guy down to earth strong mind, strong will. This also really gives you a look into up and comming fighter and their life style more times than not is not flashy and there struggle to balance finances for living, and training.
dawm i want to join alliance so bad!
i cant imagine the kind of fighter i would become training with Cruz and Vera!
i wonder if he lives right here in chula vista because the gym is on chula vista
also how much is he paying for his place i could use a cheap place for my own , MMA is all about how bad you want it!
so as long as u have your own place dosent matter the size or the luxury!
Come one, 18 000$ a fight, maybe three times a year, plus sponsorships, bonuses (which he got last time, 10 000$) etc, and he cant find anything better than that?
