Last night (Sat., June 21, 2014) UFC veteran David Branch became the first-ever World Series of Fighting (WSOF) middleweight champion with an impressive first round submission over Jesse Taylor in the main event of WSOF 10 from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

After staving off a guillotine attempt from Taylor early on, Branch maintained dominant position to secure a tight D’arce choke of his own, locking up the title-sealing win with under two minutes left in the first round. It was a convincing victory from the well-traveled Branch, who now moves forward as the face of the WSOF’s blossoming 185-pound division.

After a recent strong of absolutely lackluster UFC content, the casual fan may not have been all that motivated to watch WSOF 10 due to its seeing lack of star power, but the bottom line is that it delivered with three solid title fights, marking a decided area of growth for the young promotion.
