What’s your most memorable moment from Strikeforce?

With Strikeforce shutting its doors after it has its loaded January 12 card, it is time for us to reflect on the promotion that had its fair share of great fights, great fighters and brought women’s MMA to the masses.

The little engine that Scott Coker could debuted back in 2006 with a main event featuring Frank Shamrock vs. Cesar Gracie that, at the time, broke the record for largest audience at an MMA event in North America with 18,265. Since that event, the promotion has seen fighters such as Nick Diaz, Cung Le, Alistair Overeem, Gilbert Melendez, Luke Rockhold, Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal, Gegard Mousasi and others obtain success.

The promotion’s biggest coup was obtaining the services of Fedor Emelianenko after the many failed attempts by the UFC. Unfortunately, getting the services of what was considered the world’s best fighter ended up blowing up in their face when Fedor was submitted by Fabricio Werdum. Nevertheless, the promotion went to network television before the UFC and landed a Showtime deal that brought MMA into the lives of many who had yet to warm up to the UFC.

Oh yeah, Strikeforce also proved that women’s MMA was worth watching as Gina Carano, Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey all stormed through the doors and proved they could be just as entertaining as their male counterparts.

While it is unfortunate that Strikeforce is coming to an end, we have to remember the good times we had with the promotion. Sure, the Zuffa deal proved to be the final stake in the heart, but it sure was fun while it lasted.
