Dana White: Weidman healing faster than anticipated, Silva fight more possible than people think

And the game of middleweight contender musical chairs continues. The consensus amongst most fans and even the UFC brass seems to be that Chris Weidman is the true #1 Middleweight contender. So far we’ve heard from everyone but Dana, who will ultimately be one of the variables needed to solve this equation.

Appearing on Tuesday’s episode of UFC Tonight, Dana White admitted to meeting with Weidman recently to discuss his injury and next fight. However what had been a fairly firm no at one point, has now become a maybe leaning towards a potential yes, with the only variable being the amount of time Weidman still requires for his injury to heal.

Dana had the following to say:

“I think that fight’s closer and more possible than people think. I actually thought Weidman was going to be out a lot longer than he was because of his injuries. But, he’s healed up pretty well and he’s going to be ready to start training again in a couple months.”

With Silva and his management seeming to mention everyone but Weidman, it will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds. Not looking to commit completely to the idea of Weidman fighting for the title just yet, Dana still kept the possibilities open:

“We’re looking at a couple different options right now, some options that we like, and Weidman is one of them.”
