Number one contender for the UFC Light Heavyweight title, Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort, will enter the Octagon on September 22nd, with sights on dethroning the 10-years younger Jon Jones. Speaking on Inside MMA, Belfort explained he's an old school fighter, who's ready to fight anytime and in any place. The Phenom related to the encounter with Jon Jones as "an awesome journey", and a great opportunity to win his first UFC title since 2004.

Quote via MMAWeekly.com:

“Bas, remember, I am from your time; we are old school guys. We are the type of fighters, we adapt to fight. We are ready to fight tomorrow in the gym,” Belfort reminded Inside MMA co-host Bas Rutten. “I used to fight in the Carlson Gracie time; we used to fight every day in the gym.

“Taking this fight on such short notice and going up in the division, it’s an awesome journey in myself.”

"An awesome journey", that will end as a "crappy nightmare", with Belfort finding himself unconscious on the mat.

Props to Vitor for taking that fight on a short notice, but I don't see him winning it at all. Jon's reach will be way too much for him to overcome. This fight, in my humble opinion, will be Anderson Silva vs Belfort part II minus the front kick to the face with Vitor thinking that he did a lot by doing very little.

Jones Via sub - round 3.

I just watched this whole interview and I've never seen someone so excited to fight on short notice against a monster like Jones, he said he's taking it as an experience and an honor to fight a newschool beast. He's going into this fight with a great head it seems, and I doubt as well it will help him beat Jones I think the fight will be good. I'm interested. I'm seein a submission or TKO for Jones though

you dont have to respect him for taking the fight. he has nothing to lose and it will be a big payday for him. the ufc could have ask anybody in the ufc and almost everbody would have takeen the chance to fight for a title...

If Vitor KO's Jon this will be epic, one of the greatest moments in MMA history, not saying that because like most people here don't like Jones, but simply because an old school fighter takes the fight on a few days notice and puts to sleep a new school dominant champion.

    Smaller, Older, Lighter.

It's getting crazy. This match-ups don't mean anything.

Jones is gonna eat him without a sweat and Vitor doesn't deserve that.

He probably knows it but the money and fan friendly factor is huge so he's gonna try it but it's dangerous. I don't even want to see that.

We know what's gonna happen already.

In my opinion, they should have waited for a real contender to be available.

The UFC loses credibility with that title shot out of nowhere.

All of Jones's opponents have been smaller, older and lighter

But most of them smaller older lighter dudes are the best LHW's to still be fighting.
