UFC Fight Night 46 Prelims Results: Irish Fighters Perfect In Dublin

UFC Fight Night 46 is underway from the O2 arena in Dublin, Ireland, and the crowd has been vocal in the support of their local fighters. As expected, the atmosphere has been amazing, and the Fight Pass prelims have certainly been a spectacle to behold. First fight of the night was a flyweight affair between wrestler Josh Sampo and Irishman Patrick ‘Hooligan’ Holohan.

Wow! What a great start to the evening; Conor McGregor‘s training partner Paddy Holohan landed a snapshot copy of McGregor’s uppercut against Marcus Brimage, rocking Josh Sampo and dropping ‘Gremlin”. ”Hooligan’ followed Sampo to the mat, and sunk in a rear naked choke. Submission win for Holohan as he moves to 11-0.

Coday Donovan and Nikyta Krylov have unfinished business at light-heavyweight now, and this was a crazy barn burner. After exchanging wildly on the feet, and multiple close submission attempts from both sides, referee Marc Goddard stepped in with just three seconds left. Krylov poured on ground and pound from the back mount, but I personally think that was a strange stoppage seeing as they weren’t big punches at all.

Trevor Smith and Tor Troeng threw down at middleweight next, and this was as gritty as you’d expect from these two. After a closely fought first round, both men set in to a grinding battle of clinches and groundwork. The third round was a masterclass in smothering wrestling from ‘Hot Sauce’, as he takes the unanimous decision win.

TUF veterans Mike King and Cathal Pendrad make up the second middleweight bout of the night, and this was a rousing battle! King looked as though he may have finished Pendrad early on, with a huge right hand and a locked up choke, but the local favorite rallied to survive round one. Pendrad battled through more punishment in round two, and sunk in a rear naked choke that conked out the clearly exhausted King.

What a crazy night of fights so far, and Neil Seery takes on Phil Harris in a rematch of their 2010 BAMMA bout. Seey had his man hurt early on with his powerful boxing, and dropped him to nearly earn the finish. Good survival by Harris, and an accidental eye poke from Seery at the end of the round. Much of the same in round two, as Seery gets the crowd going with his sharp boxing.

A low blow opened round three from Harris, but Seery just absolutely owned this stanza. Great boxing nearly earned ‘2Tap’ the finish, but he ended up winning by unanimous decision. 3-0 for the Irish fighters thus far. On to the final prelim bout, as Ilir Latifi takes on Chris Dempsey at light-heavyweight.

Big low kicks from Alexander Gustafsson’s training partner Ilir Latifi, and a huge right hand and that was it. Dempsey was out cold mid takedown, in a bizzare knockout. Dominant showing from Latifi with the first round KO. What a great night as the Irish contingent remain perfect at 3-0 on the undercard. Will the main card follow suit?
