UFC Fight Night 39 Prelims Results: Thales Leites Scores First Round TKO
The UFC Fight Night 39 prelims are in the books and it was a mixed bag of results for the evening’s undercard fighters. First up on the preliminary section of the card was TUF veteran Johnny Bedford going up against Rani Yahya in a bantamweight affair.
Yahya and Bedford squared off in the middle of the cage to kick off the first round, and it was all Bedford. He stalked Yahya and appeared to knock him out with a right hand, but on second inspection it was a clash of heads that rocked Yahya and subsequently got the stoppage by the referee. No contest was the official result, and Bedford is very displeased. There follows some ‘come at me bro’ type trash talking, which Dan Hardy quickly puts a stop to.
Next up was a featherweight attraction between Alan Omer and Jim Alers, and both guys were looking sharp for their promotional debuts. Omer seemed to have the more precise striking early on, and secured the opening round with nice uppercuts to the chin. Omer rallied the crowd in the second round, as he rocked Alers in the first exchange. Alers then rallies back and rocks Omer, and the second round was very close.
More of a ground battle in the third round, and both guys finish breathing heavily. A very close fight, but Jim ‘The Beast’ Alers takes home the split decision. Oddly enough, Alers calls out Conor McGregor during his post-fight interview. Next up are middleweights Thales Leites and Trevor Smith but not before Tyron Woodley imitates a piece of wood while advertising Fight Pass (?).
Wow, what a great start by Leites as he rocks Smith with a right hand. ‘Hot Sauce’ goes down, and Leites swarms for the TKO finish. Who saw that coming? Lastly on the prelim card was a heavyweight showdown between Jared Rosholt and Daniel Omielanczuk, and I’m predicting a first round KO here.
As usual, I’m wrong, as the first round was fought on the mat. Rosholt battered Omielanczuk from the half guard and won the round with ease. Same again at the start of round two, and Omielanczuk is looking tired already. The Polish man does rock Rosholt at the end of the round, but the American takes round two.
More lying on top from the Texan in round three, as he humps and punches his way to a sweaty unanimous decision win. Bring on the main card!!
