UFC 173 Prelims Results: Tony Ferguson Scores Big Knockout

UFC 173 is underway from the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, and the preliminary cards are in the books. The undercard got 173 off to a great start, as we wait in anticipation for Renan Barao to take on TJ Dillashaw with the UFC bantamweight title on the line. First fight of the evening was a welterweight battle between David Michaud and Li Jingliang.

A great first fight was put in by the scrappers at welterweight, with Jingliang serving Michaud his first loss, after winning a well-contested decision. Next up were featherweights Sam Sicilia and Aaron Phillips; another scrappy three round affair, and it was Sicilia who took home the UD. Lastly on the Fight Pass card is Anthony Njokuani and Vinc Pichel at lightweight.

‘From Hell’ certainly slowed the action in round one with an eye poke and numerous low blows, but got to work in round two with some big slams. Pichel kept the pressure on in round three, as Njokuani looked out of sorts. Pichel by UD. On to the Fox Sports 1 prelims and first up is Al Iaquinta vs. Mitch Clarke at lightweight. ‘Raging’ Al Iaquinta dominated round one, but Clarke came back for the submission win in round two. Chico Camus and Chris Holdsworth threw down at bantamweight.

Holdsworth dominated Camus throughout, on the ground and the feet. ‘Holds It Down’ lived up to his name by smothering ‘King’ Camus, earning the unanimous decision. Tony Ferguson and Katsunori Kikuno have unfinished business at lightweight next, and this was as exciting as we’d hoped. A back-and-forth first round ended with Ferguson knocking Kikuno out with a big right hand. Lastly on the prelims was Michael Chiesa and Francisco Trinaldo.

‘Maverick’ put a solid beating on ‘Massaranduba’ in round one, and nearly got the finish. Round two was much of the same, and Chiesa rounded his night off with a clean sheet over Trinaldo. That’s it for me tonight, bring on the main card.
