With MMA’s popularity surging in Canada, the UFC has decided to host an upcoming event in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The event will be UFC 161, and was confirmed by Sportsnet’s “UFC Central” host Joe Ferraro last night on Twitter:

Taking place June 15th from the MTS Centre, Dan Henderson versus Rashad Evans is the purported main event. Dana White spoke of this fight while appearing on “UFC Tonight” shortly after UFC on Fuel TV 8.  Tyron Woodley, fresh off a flash KO of Jay Hieron, is also rumored to face off with Jake Shields on the card. This was confirmed by Tatame, although nothing has been set in stone as of yet.

The only confirmed bout as of yet is the Light Heavyweight clash between Shogun Rua and Antonio Rogerio Noguiera.

The main bout should be exciting, as it will feature two aging Light Heavyweights desperately in need of a win to hold on to any degree of relevancy. It could be said that both Dan Henderson and Rashad Evans’s last bout left something to be desired, so we’ll see which one still has something left in the tank.

Tickets for UFC 161 will go on sale to the general public on April 12th. This is great news for Canadian MMA fans, who will have a ton of hard-hitting shows coming their way soon, starting with UFC 158 from Montreal next week. There’s no doubt that Canada loves its MMA, so it’s good to see the UFC reward that dedication.

Stay tuned to LowKick for any and all developing news on UFC 161 as it unfolds.

It is kind of weird that two guys coming off loses, both in fights that were criticized for being uneventful (Rashad's performance was probably the worst he has ever looked in his UFC career), get put as the main event which is usually rewarded to people for their recent performances or for very important fights.

Similar to the Machida fight, this has a chance to be good or a chance to be two guys not committing but at least it is a 5 round fight where there is more chances for something to happen.

I am interested to see how Hendo will deal with the first wrestler he's fought in a few years, since Jake Shields actually... and we all know how that went.

Hendo got dominated, but he was drawn from the weight cut. That fight was his to lose.

yea your definitely right but even after rocking Jake he still ended up getting dominated. It probably won't have much relevance to this fight but just something to think about, that a WW outwrestled him and Rashad is no pushover when it comes to grappling.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if we saw something similar to Evans vs. Davis

Maybe that was a time he didn't use TRT to test the waters.

This is a very important fight for both, neither can afford a / the loss. Evans in particular needs to put and end to the Jekyll and Hyde act.

If Evans fights Hendo the way he did Lil' Nog he's probably gonna eat a H-bomb at some point, However If he fights Hendo the way he fought Rampage he'll probably get the nod.

Rashad has only been KOd once but we have seen him rocked in a lot of fights. I'm going with Hendo via KO in the early rounds.

That's right baby, come on home to papa. I'll finally get to my first live event!

This has all the makings of a decent fight. I think there will be little in the way of wrestling. Two wrestlers punching it out.

Cant say Im excited for this fight after each of their last performances. Maybe if it were a couple under the main event. I blame Machida more than Hendo for that bore fest but neither guy went for it. Rashad obviously looked his worst against Nog.

Man i just hope Rashad and Hendo engage, since majority has clearly stated their distaste of the previous performances of both men lol
