UFC Fight Night 93 Preliminary Results: Jessin Ayari Edges Out Jim Wallhead

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, September 2nd, 2016) will come in the form of UFC Fight Night 93. Headlining the card are Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Jessin Ayari vs. Jim Wallhead in a welterweight bout closed the UFC Fight Night 93 preliminary card. Not a ton of action in this fight. In round 1, they had a feeling out process to begin the round. Wallhead clinched with him up against the fence briefly. Wallhead stunned with a left hand, but Ayari got back to his feet. Ayari was back peddling, and Wallhead was hunting. In round 2, Wallhead continued to press forward, but there was not a ton of action. Ayari did find success with his left hook. They stood toe to toe and had an exchange briefly. In round 3, both guys didn’t do much in this round. Ayari kicked it into a higher gear late in this round and landed a head kick. Wallhead clinched with him up against the fence but then pushed off. Wallhead stunned and dropped Ayari. Wallhead got guard and landed some shots. Ayari scrambled to his feet, and they had an exchange. Ayari picked up the split decision victory.

Nicolas Dalby and Peter Sobotta met in a welterweight bout at UFC Fight Night 93. A fun hard hitting fight. In round 1, Sobotta dropped him with a minute into the round and fired away from half guard with hammer fists. Sobotta followed up with some elbows. Sobotta dominated Dably throughout the entire round with his strikes. Sobotta got his back to end the round and continued to land strikes. Dably was bleeding from his left eye. In round 2, Dalby poked Sobotta in the eye to open the second round. Sobotta caught a leg kick and scored a takedown. Sobotta got full mount and worked him over with elbows and strikes. In round 3, both guys slowed down in this round. Dalby pressed forward and started to look more confident in his striking. Sobotta scored a takedown, but Dalby got back to his feet. They clinched for a few minutes, and Sobotta went for a final takedown but was stuffed to end the round. Sobotta won the fight by decision.

Ashlee Evans-Smith and Veronica Macedo met in a women’s bantamweight bout at UFC Fight Night 93. A fun fight that Evans-Smith dominated. In round 1, Evans-Smith landed a big head kick right out of the gate. Macedo clinched with her and tried to take her down but couldn’t. With two minutes to go, Macedo scored a takedown and got back mount. Macedo landed a series of strikes. Evans-Smith scrambled, and Macedo got full mount and landed some more strikes. Evans-Smith scrambled to her feet with 30-seconds to go. They exchange to end the exciting round. In round 2, Evans-Smith landed a head kick right out of the gate. Moments later, Evans-Smith went for a takedown, but Macedo stuffed a takedown and clinched with Evans-Smith up against the fence. Evans-Smith landed some elbows, but Macedo scored a takedown. Macedo stood up, and Evans-Smith scored another takedown to end the round. In round 3, Evans-Smith clinched with her right away and got a takedown over a minute into the round. Evans-Smith landed a series of strikes from the top. Evans-Smith hammered her in the face with elbows and strikes for the win. That was a bad stoppage. The referee was too late.

Leandro Issa and Taylor Lapilus met in a bantamweight bout at UFC Fight Night 93. In round 1, Issa came right out and got a takedown. Lapilus scrambled, but Issa kept him down. Lapilus stood up, but Issa clinched him with up against the fence. They exchanged to the bell. In round 2, Issa was more well paced in this round and was picking his shots. Lapilus on the other hand was pressing forward and being the more aggressive fighter. Issa was circling away from Lapilus’ right hand, which packed some serious power. Lapilus scored a takedown and got full guard. Issa looked for a guillotine choke but couldn’t get it. In round 3, Issa clinched with him and was trying to get a takedown. Lapilus’ takedown skills were put on showcase in this fight. Lapilus was landing some good elbows while in the clinch. Lapilus missed a spinning elbow. Issa clinched with him again to end the round. Lapilus picked up the decision victory.

Christian Colombo and Jarjis Danho met in a heavyweight bout at UFC Fight Night 93. A fun big man fight. In round 1, they kept it on standing throughout the round. Danho clinched and swarmed him with several big strikes with 2 minutes to go. Colombo pushed him away, and they exchanged. Danho tagged him, and Colombo clinched again. Colombo kneed him on the top of the head, and the fight was paused. Danho was cut on the top of his head and was bleeding. Illegal knee. The fight continued, and they exchanged to the bell. In round 2, Colombo slipped and fell. Colombo covered up. Danho with a series of right hands. Colombo got up but stumbled to the fence. Danho landed a series of strikes then they separated. Colombo dropped him with a right hand, but Danho got back to his feet. Colombo landed some big knee strikes and Danho clinched. They had another wild exchange with a minute to go. Colombo pressed him up against the fence and landed some big strikes to end the round. In round 3, Colombo went for a standing kimura, but Danho got out of it. Danho dropped his head, and Colombo tagged him. Colombo walked into an uppercut by Danho. Colombo put him up against the fence and landed a big knee and some combos. Danho looked exhausted. Colombo fell and Danho got on top of him in half guard. Colombo stood up and Danho landed some big right hands. The fight ended in a draw.

Scott Askham and Jack Hermansson met in a middleweight bout at UFC Fight Night 93. In round 1, Round 1: Askham tagged him and then clinched with him up against the fence. Landed a nice uppercut while on Hermansson the fence. Askham continued to land some good uppercuts. In round 2, they had a nice exchange right out of the gate. Hermansson was trying to close the range with uppercuts and it was working. Hermansson tagged him and Askham clinched with him right away. While in the clinch, Hermansson was landing uppercuts at will. Hermansson continued to land while in the clinch and was forcing his will on Askham. Askham got out of the clinch with a minute to go and landed some right hands. Askham took him down and went for a heel hook at the end of the round. In round 3, Askham took him down to begin the round but Hermansson scrambled and got on top and landed a series of strikes. Asham went for a toe hook but Hermansson got out of it. They stood up and went back to striking. They had a wild exchange to end the round. Hermansson won the fight by unanimous decision.

Opening the UFC Fight Night 93 prelims was Rustam Khabilov vs. Leandro Silva in a lightweight bout. A solid opening bout. In round 1, Khabilov pressed early and was cornering him against the fence early. Both guys took their time and had a feeling out process. Khabilov missed with a wild spinning back kick. Khabilov shot for a takedown, but it was stuffed by Silva. Silva pushed him back. Khabilov went for another takedown with 2 minutes to get but ultimately clinched with him up against the fence. Khabilov pushed off, and they went back to striking. Silva tagged him and then took him down with 40-seconds to go. Silva got full mount, but Khabilov scrambled and got on top in full guard to end the round. In round 2, Khabilov went for a takedown early but got tagged by Silva, and they had a brief exchange. Silva landed a good 1-2 combo. Khabilov clinched with him and took him down with over a minute to go in the round. Khabilov got full guard on top. Silva went for a triangle choke, but Khabilov got out. Khabilov landed elbows from the top and worked him over pretty good. In round 3, Khabilov was looking to take the fight to the ground the entire round, but Silva’s takedown defense was great and stayed on his feet for the majority of the round. Khabilov scored a takedown with 2 minutes to go but Silva got back to his feet, and they exchanged to the end of the round. Khabilov picked up the decision victory.
