UFC Sao Paulo Preliminary Results: Vicente Luque Submits Niko Price

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, October 28th, 2017) will come from in the form of UFC Fight Night 119. Headlining the card are Derek Brunson and Lyoto Machida, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Vicente Luque vs. Niko Price in a welterweight bout closes the preliminary card on FOX Sports 2. In round 1, Luque counters a jab with a nasty leg kick, then another. Price keeps the jab pumping, tries his own leg kick. Price briefly closes the pocket and Luque wings tight bombs to scare him off. They trade leg kicks, more for Luque. Luque jab. They jab together but Price’s has more on it. Luque tries a jumping knee, gets tied up, backs off. Price leg kick prompts counter. Luque’s face is reddened a bit by Price jabs but Luque has connected with fists and feet more consistently. Luque flying knee. In round 2, Luque leg kick answered by a sudden, fast combo from Price but Luque manages to block/slip most of it and swing back. Luque working on Price’s lead leg. Price front kick. Luque steps in with a flush shovel hook to Price’s mouth. Luque out landing Price. 3-piece lands flush for Luque, and he follows it with a flying knee. Price’s chin continues to hold up. He’s cut next to the left eye. Luque is chopping down Price’s lead leg and then lands a flush right. Price tries a takedown but gets stuffed. Luque teeing off. Luque follows Price to the mat with vicious ground and pound and then slaps on a D’Arce, has to adjust and roll with Price, but gets the tap.

Antonio Carlos Junior vs. Jack Marshman is next in a middleweight bout. In round 1, Carlos Junior so far pulling his head just out of range. He lands a nice counter combo and a leg kick for good measure. Marshman catches a kick. Carlos Junior uses the caught kick to tie up with Marshman, extricates his leg, and trips the Welshman to the mat. Carlos Junior is landing moderate g&p as Marshman tries to break the Brazilian’s posture. Carlos Junior goes knee on face for a moment. Carlos Junior seems to decide he’s ready to advance and cuts to mount. He postures to land punches but Marshman puts on the hips. Marshman gives his back and Carlos Junior slaps on the choke with the quickness for the win.

Hacran Dias vs. Jared Gordon is next in a featherweight bout. In round 1, Gordon his a right hand as Dias wall-walks back to his feet. 1-2 lands for Gordon. Dias hits a counter right following Gordon kick. 1-2 lands for Dias. Gordon has a cut next to his right eye. He’s pressuring Dias, keeping him backed toward the fence. Dias is doing a good job parrying a lot of Gordon’s offering. Dias is getting hit but he lands a pair of clean lefts, then a right. Gordon continues to walk forward. He lands a right head kick, Dias ducks under a punch, circles back to center and lands clean. In round 2, Gordon picks up where he left off, sending a combo bouncing off Dias’ guard. He pushes Dias into cage, Dias shoves him off. Dias hits a trip but Gordon isn’t letting him hold position. Gordon uses a whizzer to get up and starts putting it on Dias again. Dias shoots again but gets stuffed. Gordon reverses him on the fence. Dias hits a very solid 2-3-2 but Gordon eats it, stays on Dias. Now, Gordon, has Dias trapped on the fence and it going to the head and body with punches. Now he hits his own takedown and drops ground and pound. Hard hammerfists for Gordon. Dias tries to use a knee shield and then to kick Gordon away but Gordon stays in half, blasting him. Dias tries a deep half but Gordon has none of it, moves to mount. More ground and pound. Dias rolling and not trying to give up his back. In round 3, Dias tries a takedown but doesn’t come close to finishing it. Gordon shoots in now but has to settle with dirty boxing on the fence. Gordon seemed to be deep on a takedown but Dias manages to stave it off. Dias looks super tired but he’s landing on Gordon. Dias might’ve absorbed an eye poke but he’s taking advantage of the break. Not long after they’re back at it. Gordon settled into top position now dropping punches and elbows. The referee looked to have stopped it by touching Gordon but backs off. Gordon temporarily puts his hands up before resuming ground and pound. With 10s left, Dias shifts his hips and has an armbar, Gordon waits out the round. The judges gave the win to Gordon.

Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos vs. Max Griffin in a welterweight bout opens the FOX Sports 2 preliminary bouts. In round 1, Griffin backs out. They trade nice jabs. Dos Santos hits a right hook, then ducks under for a double but Griffin shucks it off. Dos Santos turns and pushes an off-balanced Griffin into the cage and hits some strikes before Griffin recovers. Griffin drops him. Griffin tries to follow up with ground and pound from half guard but dos Santos recovers, upkicks, gets back to his feet. Zaleski ducks and hits a counter right. Griffin tries to tie up but Zaleski goes off with big hooks and Griffin is on skates. Zaleski forces Griffin to the floor, follows him with ground and pound. Griffin works back to his feet but he’s very wobbly, Zaleski throwing bombs. The rounds ends but Griffin looks like he might be out on his feet. In round 2, Zaleski looking for a big kick, gets warned for sticking his fingers out. 1-2s for Zaleski, eats a right from Griffin. Dos Santos shoots but gets stuffed. Griffin hits a jab, steps in behind a right hand, then another. Zaleski looking for killshot. Long front kick to face for Zaleski. Griffin drops dos Santos to his seat with a right hand again! Hits him as he gets up too. In round 3, Right for Griffin then a long left hook as Zaleski circles away. Big cross for dos Santos but Griffin comes back with hard combo. Long right to the body for Griffin. 1-2-1 for dos Santos as he comes forward, the last left snapping Griffin’s head back. They trade leather down the stretch. They banged on each other a lot, both refused to go away. The judges gave the win to dos Santos. 

Jarred Brooks vs. Deiveson Figueiredo in a flyweight bout finishes off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card. In round 1, Brooks and Figueiredo clinch up for the first time. Figueiredo pushes Brooks against the cage. Brooks reverses position on the fence, drops and gets his hands clasped around Fig’s hips, picks him up and dumps mid-cage. Brooks sets up in guard and drops some elbows while keeping his head tight. Figueirdo keeping a closed guard. Now Figueirdo puts his feet on the hips and sweeps to his feet but ends up in front headlock. He tosses Brooks over him, escapes up. In round 2, Figueirdo crashes into the clinch and sticks Brooks on the cage for a moment before disengaging. Big right for Fig, stalking Brooks. Figueirdo scoring with kicks, Brooks shoots but finds himself in a tight guillotine. Brooks pops his head out. Fig pushes off gets up. Figueirdo getting complacent and staying on his back this time. Frames up an elbow from his back but closes his guard again. Figueirdo pushed off finally but Brooks apparently grabs the shorts to take the back as Fig tries to scramble away. In round 3, Brooks ducks under a hook for a shot, Figueirdo sprawls and threatens a back take then jumps on another guillotine, Brooks out again. Figueirdo gets back to his feet quickly this time but Brooks is latched onto his hips, takes him down. Figueirdo up again. Brooks looks tired but he hits a belly to back suplex anyway. Figueirdo tries a kimura from his back but no dice. Works back to feet. Big uppercut for Figueirdo. Brooks ducks under a cross and again finds himself in a Fig guillotine but pops his head out at the bell. The judges gave Figueiredo the decision win.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims is Christian Colombo vs. Marcelo Golm in a heavyweight bout. In round 1, Hard right hand and then a left. Colombo hurt. Golm going crazy swinging hooks. They clinched up against the fence. Golm gets a takedown right into mount. He starts going to work with ground and pound. Colombo gives up his back and Golm gets his hooks in. Colombo gets to the fence to try to protect his back as Golm softens him up. Golm wraps the neck and gets the tap.
