UFC 153 Drug Tests: Bonnar fails for Anabolic Steroids, Herman for Marijuana

Steroids and Marijuana are once again appearing on UFC drug tests.

This time it's UFC 153 main eventer Stephan Bonnar, who tested positive for Drostanolone - an anabolic steroid. Bonnar lost to Anderson Silva via TKO in Round 1, after another memorable performance by the Brazilian.

Silva was The American Psycho's last opponent inside the Octagon. Only 2 days ago, Bonnar has officially announced his retirement from professional MMA competition.

In the same paragraph, Dave Herman tested positive for Marijuana, becoming the third (or fourth) UFC fighter testing positive for this illegal substance. Herman lost his fight with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira via Submission (Armbar).

Interestingly enough, this is a second time Daver Herman gets busted for using Marijuana. Pee-Wee tested positive in a pre-fight drug test prior to his scheduled fight with Mike Russow back at UFC 136. Herman then denied any usage of the drug.

UFC 153 took place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro on October 13th.

Do they have the same Dr as Overeem?? Maybe some sort of mix up.

By the way, did Overeem ever sue his Dr for loss of earnings??

Doesn't really matter for Bonner now, I suppose what it does do is rule him out from being an ambassador for the UFC...

As for Mr Herman, I thought it was a bit dodgy the way he is happy even if he loses the fight... this explains a lot.

"I lost the fight, but thanks to my newly branded range of UFC Bongs"...

What a shame bonnar leaves the sport with a black mark against his name.

How much of his career was he on the juice?

it makes sense bonnar said he was retired when he was offered the silva fight. if some one told you you had to fight the goat in four weeks after you had been sitting on the couch for a year what would you do. it really only reinforces what a complete sham the entire fight was. just pure padding for silvas record and fuel for the hype train not that he needed it

Silva offered to save the PPV dummy nothing to do with ''padding his record'' because nobody will look back on that, if anything it'll be the Hendo, Belfort, Okami and fights like those people look back on. Then you had the cheek to defend Bonnar in the same breath, you must be high so I won't give you a weak.

I could care less to be honest about the steroids from Bonnar he sacrificed his body for most of his life, and entertained us. Plus he is retired now. I would just let it go.

So David, would you say the same thing if Bonnar beat Silva? ROIDS have a HUGE impact on recovery time, training, and strength! I've seen guys put on 25lbs plus of muscle in a few months at the gym!! It is an unfair advantage and he is a cheater. Glad he is finished with MMA and glad Silva beat his cheating ass down.

Its not that its that I think more are using than are not using, and we only hear about the ones dumb enough to get caught, we all enjoyed pride, and most of us have watched a Belfort or Leben, a Sherk, a Barnett, a Nate M fight again after they got caught, and many want to see Reem again, should Royce Gracie life work mean nothing also since they tested positive. I just think its to big of a problem in all sports, and im not going to lose any sleep over it, I lose enough sleep on real world important things.

What was an almost perfect ending to a career, even though a loss, going out with more respect than 9/10 fighters do with a win, has been tarnished in my eyes.

I thank him for the TUF Finale and some decent fights but in all he has lost most of my respect.

Once was bad enough but twice, especially for your retirement fight and the biggest night of your career, is inexcusable and damn right shameful.

Glad Carlson Gracie didn't see Bonnar do this, after all the times Stephan talking about being a true martial artist and coming from a background of being respectful.

Another guy trying to cheat himself through Silva gets abolished, all is right in the world.

Agreed, it's a really shitty way to end a career. It would have been even sadder if Bonnar had won, we'd have seen the greatest win-streak in UFC history ended by a cheating, roided up a-hole. What's even more damning is the fact that Bonnar has tested positive for steroids previously. All the good will he built with the fans following his recent win streak has been flushed down the toilet.

Just in case people get mixed up, this isn't the controversial TRT we have been seeing lately, this is straight up cheating steroids.

Also like to say cya Herman, never looked like he bothered about winning or losing, talked crap and failed for the same thing twice in roughly a year period - not worthy of being in the UFC.

Steiroids shouldn't be considered cheating, and everyone knows pot should be legal.

TRT is legal steroids, lets be honest keith they take an excess amount while training for the steroid benefit then get their levels down in time for the pee test that day before the fight.

Maybe the pot legal thing is okay but Steroids shouldn't be cheating? Why don't all the fighters get robotic implant then, only the next step

They should all be "juicing". You're going to tell a man whose job is to be an athlete that he can't perform to his fullest? Why? Is that what you were told is right? It's stupid.

Good question actually, not seen anyone mention that yet. IMO, someone getting popped for roids twice in the UFC shouldn't get in the HOF.

He may have been part of the legendary fight but in the end is that enough? Griffin was the winner and became champ so he definitely deserves HOF.

People are usually 50/50 on Bonnar getting in it, for me this puts him out.

Yeah I agree. Mike Chiappetta tweeted, '...the steroid Bonnar tested positive for, inhibits water retention. It's mostly used for weight cutting, not strength gains'. Doesnt make it any better, but he did have a long lay off from the sport and only had a 3 week camp or so! Makes it slightly understandable why he took it?

Guys you act like you are were born yesterday. Havent you already realized that 99% of pro athletes in EVERY sport on this planet take some sort of steroids? But not everyone is getting cought or I would say some are more protected than the others for many reasons.

To juice or not to juice he was probably thinking even if they bust me I need whatever edge possible vs Silva not okaying it just seems likely what someone might do,and TRT is not steroids. Its like calling meth crack. What if UFC used Vada for every fight I wonder how many fighters would get popped?

As sad as it is to see Bonnar fail yet again for the roids, though I don't hold anything against him. He most definitely didn't have to juice, and it wouldn't have made a difference, as Bas Rutten once said, it doesn't help your technique. I guess he really really wanted to go out with a win over Anderson.

Neither of these positives really surprised me. Peewee just has that stoner persona about him.
