UFC 149: Renan Barao beats Urijah Faber with unanimous decision
Posted on July 22, 2012, 12:07 AM by Mike DrahotaBrazilian phenom Renan Barao extended his unbeaten streak tonight with a decisive unanimous decision victory over opponent Urijah Faber. Faber, as always, came out with a lot of motion and speed, but was just unable to find an opening in the defense of Barao. Barao used a lot of kicks as expected, with great Muay Thai leg kicks similar to Jose Aldo. The kicks seemed to cause Faber's leg to swell up as the fight wore on.
Barao also attempted many headkicks and even high spinning back-kicks, showing a diverse striking arsenal. He would often follow with several crisp punching combinations, and also stuffed any attempts at a takedown. Faber was trying to find his rhythm, but Barao never let it happen. Barao applied consistent pressure to score the unanimous decision. With the win, he proves that he is worthy of the considerable hype he received leading up to this bout.
For Faber, a man who is now 0-5 in his last 5 title bouts, a decline may be on the horizon. He always come to the cage and pours his heart into each fight, but he was clearly over-matched tonight. While only thirty-three years old, we may have seen our last title fight featuring Urijah Faber. Barao will now wait until current Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz heals up from a torn ACL to unify the belts. The striking battle that will ensue between Barao and Cruz should be an interesting chess match, albeit one that will most likely end in a decision.

most boring main card ever
yep. sure glad I downloaded this one.
Thanks to some super boring wrestling like Ebersol and Jordan with no stand up at all going for failed take downs the whole time and some uneventful striking in some other fights I completely understand why the crowd was booing so much.
On that note the prelims were pretty damn good! Glad I actually watched them this time so the event wasn't a total waste of time.
worst main card I have ever seen.
Finally a card that lived up to expectations I just wish it wasn't in this way
This article is more exciting then the actual main card.
I've never seen a fighter so oblivious to a crowd's frustration with a boring performance as Barao was tonight.
okay I will weak you now like the 15 others already have
and Hector Lombard ended his fight in beautiful fashion, by losing... next time he should think twice before calling out Anderson Silva again..
arrogant prick too, hope he learned a lesson with this loss.
On the other hand, his calling out of Munoz now seems wholly appropriate.
The only beautiful thing about that fight was hearing the final bell
The last three fights... man... what the hell. I know all the fights on a card can't be 7 sec KO's but come on man...
Congo fight... I know Rogan tried to sell it as there was something happening when they were against the cage... but... if there was ever a reason to bring back the Pride yellow card... this was the fight.
Lombard.... WTF was that! You see the dude just going through people and he chooses his UFC debut to sit back and just take some shots now and again? He didn't win any fans with that performance. The crowd was yelling Bullshit..... have to agree.
Faber couldn't find his range... landed some shots but was dominated... and the fight wasn't horrible but it was far from what most of us expected... a slug fest.
Enjoyed the prelims more!
Oh well..... hurry up Aug 11th!!! Need to put his event behind us.

thanks for the money barao. i'll pick you again, when you fight cruz!
Your a cool dude
its cards like this that make me sad Pride no longer exists!
oh come on man, do you need a tissue!? im not a dana white fanboy, but really, look how many good shows ufc puts on. now, there was one bad one and people like u starts crying.
Baraos didn't seem to happy after his win seemed a little depressed and shocked that he won. He's very humble.
When the fight ended, he congratulated Faber, and then immediately started celebrating. He was celebrating while the scores were being announced before he called his name, and he definitely looked happy the whole time.
I do think he's a humble guy...but "depressed and shocked that he won?" Exactly what the hell were you watching?
I was being sarcastic -____-
So is faber officially a gate keeper now or will he keep on getting unsuccessful title shots?
Sonnen vs Lombard, make it happen! wanna see him get KTFO again!
