Tyron Woodley made a statement in the UFC Welterweight division when he knocked out Josh Koscheck at UFC 167. Kos, a long time contender at 170, had no answer for Woodley’s aggressive striking and was finished in brutal fashion. Woodley had successfully debuted for the promotion with a KO win over Jay Heiron, but slipped up against Jake Shields at UFC 161.

The win against Kos really put ‘T-Wood’ on the map, and he feels this is the beginning of his own era of dominance. Speaking with fans at the UFC on Fox 10 Q&A, Woodley outlined his plans for his future in the UFC:

“I didn’t want this fight because I thought that it was easy, that he was a pushover. I’m actually a fan of Condit, he brings it every time. You never can count him out. For me, I need these types of bouts. I needed the bout with Josh Koscheck because he was going to force me to use the tools that God gave me, and I think Carlos Condit is going to be my toughest test. I’m looking forward to it.”

‘The Chosen One’ is currently ranked at number 10 in the WW class, and should be competing for the strap if he beats number two Carlos Condit at UFC 171. Condit has been a mainstay in the division for years now, and is the former interim champion too.

“My strategy is to be the best Tyron Woodley I can be. If I come out there like a ball of fire, I think a hard right hand to any welterweight and I’ll put them on the ground. I think that I’m going to get the chance to test his chin. I think I’m going to get the chance to test his cardio that I’ve been hearing about,”

“I think I’m the new generation of the sport, and I’ll prove it.”

A former NCAA wrestler, a brown belt in BJJ and now a knockout artist; At 31 Woodley could well be the future of the division, but will it be as the champion? We’ll know a little more after he fights ‘The Natural Born Killer’ at 171.
