Tito Ortiz sounds off against TRT: Now I know why Forrest Griffin reacted the way he did after the fight

Former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Tito Ortiz, shared his thoughts about the recent TRT trend in the world of Mixed Martial Arts. According to Ortiz, being on testosterone replacement therapy is a bad example for fans, and young up-and-coming fighters. Ortiz also hinted at TRT as the main reason for Forrest Griffin's bizarre post-fight behavior at UFC 148:

"If they’re not able to compete on an even field, now they’re able to use some kind of supplement to enhance them to become on a higher level. They’re able to push themselves, able to recover faster, able to push themselves harder during the fight. Now, what happens to their mind? What happens to their body? Now I look at it, I look at the way Forrest reacted after the fight, now I know why he reacted the way he did. So, it’s just too bad that this epidemic is starting to happen.”

The way Tito is going on about TRT makes it sound like every fighter is abusing alcohol and crashing cars. And I'm sure every teenager who wants to fight MMA is only doing it so they can use TRT.

    Adda boy Tito.

Look at the way this guy's head has changed over the last decade. He has clearly been using HGH. I am not saying juicing isn't a problem but Tito has no room to talk.

Clearly he was never caught using it, or clearly ever admitted to it. So clearly there is no clear proof of him clearly using HGH, clearly.

Hunter, you clearly have an unclear understanding of when it's clearly fair to accuse fighters who quite clearly have abused PED's, clearly.

So... at the end... and it's early... not fully awake.... but... did Tito just say the he now understands why Forrest acted the way he did at the end of the fight.... implying Forrest was/is using TRT?

Please tell me this isn't how he is going to keep himself in the spotlight..... Tito's anti TRT campaign....

Tito may be a legend but he is extremely unsporting in defeat, always has to try to take away from the opponent's win one way or another.

If TRT can be kept it check and is used for only making the testosterone levels equal to the opponent, as long as it is harmless to the fighter then I think there's nothing wrong with it.

If your testosterone level is lower than the other guys, deal with it, thats life. If my level of testosterone is at full legal limit naturally and the dude across from me is on TRT to match my levels, is that fair. No. Because I naturally have a higher level, it is an advantage, but a natural advantage. I don't see people arguing against JJ arm reach, i say they should strap his arms so they can only extend as far as their opponent's reach, same with his legs, take away his born/natural gifts and even the playing field.

Difference is though, jones was born with that gift. that's literally in his DNA to be grown that way.

Guys on TRT on the other hand, are just guys that used steroids like nuts(no pun intended) during their earlier years and now they don't work properly, so it's like a cheaters second chance.

Funny thing is, the nutless guys have the most nuthuggers, so their fans have to stay down there awhile

Well reasoned point Keith but I gotta go with the "ball juice" comment. Ha Ha.

"if you can't make your own ball juice thats your doing you don't need to be fighting".

Dana is going to do something about the trt ... Yeah right..... One of the biggest cashcows ever in the UFC was so because of roids. Brock Lesnar. Any one who thinks he was clean has no understanding of how the human body works. For the love of God, that man is the poster boy for roids.

All Tito has done for Dana's New UFC is complain, complain, complain and... yes complain... maybe that's what fighters need to do in order to get into the hall of fame...

    1) Tito has been fighting guys on roids his whole career. It's not happning "all of a sudden." See Shamrock, Ken.

    2) Yes, Tito has always had a big head, but his jaw didn't used to be twice as wide as his forehead. He may never have tested positive, but he sure as hell doesn't look like the posterboy for not using TRT. Look at his early fights, his face and head look completely different.

I'm not saying you're wrong because really every single person in MMA history could have been on roids at one point or another (and Tito has always been big and in great shape). However, his head and jaw structure haven't changed that much. Even if you look at a picture of him with the belt (his wiki pic) compared to one now the most notable differences can be attributed to aging.

But as I said you could be right, crazier shit has become fact in MMA.

    3) I can understand why Tito is so concerned with the message being sent to the "youths" watching MMA. I remember him as the guy who always showed class in defeat by never making excuses, and was even classier in victory, showing the ultimate respect for his opponents by digging them a grave. He also promoted his fights with great class, being careful to never insult anyone, and he always kept his language PG.
