Thiago Alves vs. Jordan Mein Booked For August UFC Event In Tulsa, Oklahoma

An exciting welterweight scrap has been added to the upcoming August 23 UFC card in Tulsa, Oklahoma. UFC officials confirmed that former UFC 170-pound title challenger Thiago Alves has signed to face rising prospect Jordan Mein on the late summer card.

Alves recently returned from a two-year injury hiatus to defeat veteran Seth Baczynski with a “Fight of the Night”-winning decision at April 19’s UFC on FOX 11 from Orlando. When healthy, there’s no not much doubt that the American Top Team product has some of the most vicious striking in a division loaded with dangerous knockout artists.

But staying healthy has always been the issue for the 30-year-old “Pitbull,” especially recently.

Alves will have a tough challenge in 24-year-old Mein, who also fought at UFC on FOX 11, beating Hernani Perpetuo via spilt decision. “Young Gun” has won four out of his last five bouts, with his only defeat coming at the hands of surging No. 5 contender Matt Brown. Mein had “The Immortal” hurt with body shots early, which may be his kryptonite.

We’ll have to wait and see if Robbie Lawler capitalizes upon that when the two meet up in the main event of UFC on FOX 12 to decide the next contender to Johny Hendricks’ belt.

As for the August card in Tulsa, a main event has not been booked yet for the UFC’s first return to Oklahoma in roughly five years. Stay tuned to LowKick MMA for all developing news on the card.
