Sonnen puts Jones on notice, says he should have gone to Heavyweight when he had the chance
Posted on October 17, 2012, 12:55 PM by Mike DrahotaSpeaking on FuelTV's "UFC Tonight" last night, Light Heavyweight challenger and TUF coach-to-be Chael Sonnen has already begun his next round of epic smack talk, this time focused on UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones. The announcement of their fight has come as quite a surprise to many fans and pundits of MMA, who were shocked that Sonnen was even offered the title bout. After all, he has spent over seven years away from the division and sufferedd a brutal knockout loss in his most recent bout. To the question of how he got the bout, he replied quickly:
"Well, probably by elimination. I got nobody out there that's willing to fight me, and Jon-Jon the Leprechaun's got my belt I'm coming to take. There wasn't a whole lot of math you had to put into it."
So let the hype train begin. Sonnen, by now, has to be liked and disliked more for his eloquent trash-talking skills rather than his sizable fighting skills. Still, he has opened as a massive underdog and most believe he will lose to Jones handily. Sonnen would never let you believe this, and continued on:
"Jon was thinking about going to Heavyweight, and he should have. The bottom line is, he waited too long, and the man has arrived."

I think it's crazy how he can get title shots by talking trash just because it sells more fights! Shows what the company values...
But then again if it was my company I'd probably give a title shot to Bob Sapp for some extra dollars in my pocket.
The company 'values' fans. No fans = No UFC. So really they are doing it for us, for them.
Same circumstances as Silva vs. Weidman. Weidman's doing great and may very well be No. 1 contender; but how many people would be willing to purchase the PPV for that.

It's all about the ratings and the ppv buys. Dana is in the entertainment and mony-making business FIRST. Along the way, he's willing to sacrifice anyone and anything that stands in the way of his goals. That said, I will personally be looking forward to watching how the show unfolds this time around and how Chael will deal with the exceptional talent of JOnes in the cage...

damn after the Silva fight the guy was cool no hype or BS no WWE
type talk to sell the fight or thinking he has remotely the talent Ali had to
ryme and sell the fight he sounds and looks like a douce!!! ohhhh and we will have to hear it every week I hope he teaches the guys and doesnt
use the show to sell his fight ALL THE TIME cause he is a great coach

Think of the beating he's gonna get from Jones as your reward for putting up with it.
.....and yet you still watch. I can guarantee you that in the next 6 months, every article, video, and interview will make the viewer/reader well aware that Chael Sonnen is in it or at least it's subject matter. If you don't want to read or hear what he has to say, then DON'T CLICK THE LINK. Don't want to see him as a coach on TUF? DON'T WATCH.
It's just that simple. I personally, don't want to see Snookie....ever. So , I don't watch Jersey Shore or click YT videos with her name in the title or go to TMZ.com. Nor do I want to see another man's tallywhacker.....so I don't open bathroom stall doors without knocking first. Gotta look out for yourself.

I like Chael when it comes to taking the fight to his opponent. The next 6 months of WWE trash talk will get old... fast.
Jones will keep his belt... can't see how Chael will get through him.
Congrats to both of them for making a shit ton of $ for this fight. At the end of the day Chael needs to work his way up the ladder again to earn a title shot.

I think a lot of us are wondering why you arent going to heavyweight Chael? I mean you took andersons belt with ease, and Jones is clearly not in your league with him being scared of you and all so why waste your time with the small fry?? Go take Juniors belt big guy
I was always a CS fan and still think there is a place for him in the UFC given his wrestling skill set. However, I'd like to see him work his way up and fight some of the lower ranked fighters who overall are more rounded. I bet after he gets his ass whipped by jones he quits fighting.
Its a smart move on his part and I give him props for pulling it off. he will make in two fights what it takes most guys to make in 10 fights. And he'll make all that in less than 3 rds.
I still don't understand how you can get another title shot after loosing..
People say Chael has no chance.....pls tell me who is the clear contender at LHW (if not hte goat)...Shogun was destroyed, Machida was almost killed, Rampage chocked out, Rashad did not even come close, Vitor was subed ( a Carlson Gracie black belt)...do you think Hendo has a better shot than Chael at 42? I dont....maybe Machida in a remach but the reality is that Chael has as good as a cahnce as eveyone else (very little) and that there is no clear contender..... I am very much looking forward to that fight...if there is a man on the face of this planet that can take Jones down is Chael and we never so how he does on his back...I want to see it.!!!

Win or lose, I'm glad Chael is in this fight. I hate that they are coaching TUF because that means the fight won't take place for a while. And Chael may have a better chance if they fought sooner. But that being said, Hendo is hurt. Machida wanted more time. These are the perks of being a guy like Sonnen, who will sign the dotted line no matter when the fight is, who it is, where it is, or what his chances are. Much respect to a guy like that. Maybe TUF will finally be entertaining again.

Only way to keep the rankings fair in the ufc is TO BOYCOTT THIS FIGHT!!! Dana thinks only of money, saying that he's only giving fans what they want. So if we don't buy the ppv nor tickets we can show what we want. I at least, want mma to be a sport, and the biggest promotion to keep to sportmanship. Don't all the "fans" that like this kinda stuff already have the WWE????
