Sonnen: I am the most dominant fighter in the history of this sport
Posted on July 5, 2012, 07:14 PM by Mike SearsonMMA H.E.A.T.'s Karyn Bryant interviewed an unusually reserved Chael Sonnen at the UFC 148 open workouts in Las Vegas. In what has been billed as the fight (or at least the rematch) of the year against Anderson Silva, Sonnen, surprisingly claims that he still has to lose 20 pounds before tomorrow's weigh-ins: "I am 20lbs over and have 24 hours to go, I'm going to go through a lot of discomfort, but I'll make the weight."
When asked about Anderson Silva's comments about Sonnen recently, in response to Sonnen's trash-talking, the challenger seemed to take them all in stride: "I thought everything he said he was appropriate. He referenced beating children and he's taken heat for that in the media and I don't think that he should. I don't think that's how he meant it at all. I don't know him, but I am sure he is a good father. In his defense, I thought what he said about beating children was taken out of context and not what he meant at all."
Bryant asked Sonnen who he would like to fight next if he defeats Silva, to which he responded: "I like easy fights, if I can rematch Anderson, that would be most ideal. If Vitor (Belfort) can beat somebody that wasn't either an invalid or 170 pounder and we could trick the world into thinking he was relevant that would be nice. i like the easy fights. I've had the hard fights like Stann, Okami and Bisping, bring on the easy fights."
As for Silva and Michael Bisping's comments about Sonnen not being a very hard striker, the contender said he did not care and that was not his job, he then responded: "I've never lost a round in MMA, I have no equal. You won't find one scoring card that's gone against me. If you combined all my fights and set a stopwatch, you would not find one minute where I lost. I am the most dominant fighter in the history of this sport."

sitting at the airport flight got delayed 2 hr, am i wrong but didnt he lose to maia in the 1st rd??? so wouldnt that be a rd against him?? ps i hate airports!!!!!!!
That doesn't happen to Sonnen fans. Do you want me to call the airport and have them find you a seat on another flight?
did i get weaked cause im right?? if u lose in the 1st rd then u lose the rd right? and yes if u could get me though this airport it would b great i just spend $8.00 on a hotdog!!
Why has no one mentioned that on the main card Silva has beat a fighter in each of those fights: Maia, Griffin, Cote and Sonnen. This is impressive and shows how good Anderson is and how many good fighters he has victories over.
Sonnen on the other hand has lost to Maia, Griffin and Silva. This might make you rethink your opinion if you were going for Chael on this one
What his point is that he is always winning until he loses very suddenly and that he was winning that round until he got stopped.
Just thought I would be the vote that tips you in as funny tipping the scale and taking your comment out of weak and into funny.
I don't really understand some of the things that get weak'd on this site - yet why should I care.
I hate Airports too!
@Silva, don't fret the weaks. At this point in the game between Silvanauts and Sonnenheads you "weak" and "sharp" people based on their affiliation rather than based on the content of what they say.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be "weaked" or "sharped" by whether they are Silva or Sonnen fans but by the content of their post. (homage with respect).
Bruce- you've become the new Martin Luther King of lowkick
"I have a dream"
Nice dream.
Not exactly. If the round doesn't finish then technically it has no winner or loser, so Sonnen getting subbed in the first meant tht the round didn't get judged upon. He probbaly hasn't lost a round (in major organisations anyway) except against Bisping.
Great fighter but he has never had more than a 3 win streak in a major organisation...
Yeah but he's had 15 straight wins in him mind.
I'm not a fan of how Chael promoted his fights with Anderson. There was no need for a lot of what he said, and frankly it was crossing the line. On a side note, I personally think Chael is prob a pretty cool guy in person and seems pretty humble. This is just his way of getting what he wants, and he does a good job at it.
Just when I thought he had maxed out his greatness. He says this.... Chael Sonnen is pure awesome.
I've just had my house wallpapered with his likeness.
LnP....if dont get submited you always win....ask GSP?
The only thing I will give you is that the typical Brazilian style does constantly go for the finish. Not much lay n prey involved, but there are some exceptions.
20 pounds over with 24 to go... damn, getting worried now...
Probably no one in the sport you could count on more to make weight than him, but still....
Chael Sonnen can shit out 20 lbs in one hour with the amount of bullshit inside that guy.
Chael Sonnen can shit out 20 lbs in one hour with the amount of bullshit inside that guy.
Hell I think if Sonnen shit out all the bullshit he has in there, he could possibly end up challenging the winner of Demetrious Johnson/Joseph Benavidez for the 125lb belt.
Clown.
This is great, first time there has ever been a main event where I like which ever outcome.
If Sonnen wins great! New champion and a new chapter in the UFC is created.
If Silva wins great! More Sonnen insanity (which I find really funny)
Guys you dont understand one thing about Chael. How many fighters get back on track after 11 loses??? One and that is beutifull.
This guy isn't even pretending to be serious anymore. No respect for anything. The only positive thing I can think to say about him is he is slightly more sane than Steven seagal.
....or is he
Not trying to defend Chael but it honestly seems like a lot of people simply missunderstand what his point is.
