It is with a heavy heart that I bring sad news of UFC Heavyweight Shane Del Rosario’s passing, the 30 year old Strikeforce and UFC competitor was in a critical condition following a cardiac arrest suffered at his home on Tuesday.

Doctors resuscitated Shane upon his arrival in ER, but were unable to bring the embattled Heavyweight to a stable condition. A few words from Del Rosario’s coach Colin Oyama:

“The Del Rosario family and I, and all of our family, team-mates and friends thank everyone for their prayers and support. God has a different path for Shane to take and instead has chosen to take Him away from us to be with his forefathers in Heaven. Yet through all of this our Faith in GOD remains unwavering.”

Words truly escape me at such a time of terrible loss, all I can say is that we at Lowkick send our thoughts and prayers out to Del Rosario’s family, friends and team. There is much lost at such a saddening time as this, but the memories that Del Rosario leaves behind are of a family man, hard worker and record breaker. A few words from Dana White:

Big John McCarthy had this to say:

Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva posted the following:

MMA legend Bas Rutten released these words:

Shane was the first American to become WBC Muay Thai Champion and held 11 wins in MMA, all by knockout or submission. He was a warrior. I don’t know what else to say except this is a dark day for MMA. Rest in peace Shane Del Rosario.

UPDATE: The site that originally posted the story, espn.com, has now claimed that Del Rosario is showing no brain activity and will be removed from life support today. I apologize for any confusion or concern caused and again send out my deepest regrets to the Del Rosario family.

  • rest in peace champ!!! Too young

    • RIP. My condolences to the Del Rosario Family… A sad day for MMA…

  • This is tragic news. He was well involved in the big brother program. One of the nicest down to earth fighters has left us. Heart felt sympathies to his family, friends and little brother.

  • wow, thats sad!

  • F**K!!!

    God rest his soul.

Our thoughts, prayers and sympathies go out to his family.

The UFC should have a moment of silence on Saturday night and if not then, they should do it for the 168 card, that he scratched for. Something special should be done.

  • RIP Shane Del Rosario

  • Very sad.

  • Oh man, It's hard to believe this guy is gone just like that at such a young age, that ********hurts.

    RIP, Del Rosario.

  • Sad news indeed. May god bless his soul and gives strength to his family.

  • R.I.P

  • Would be a good idea for all athletes that compete at high levels to have their hearts checked. This happens more often than you might think. I think about 5 years ago a big time hockey prospect passed away at 19.

Shane was too young and I am sad to hear this. I really feel for his family.

  • I'm hearing that he is still alive, guys. Man, it would made my night if he was really still alive. I really hope he makes it.

  • Sad News…R.I.P Champ…Vaya Con Dios…

  • fun fighter and great human being. RIP shane you will be missed.

  • It's always hard to accept athletes of this caliber being forced to end their careers early let alone their lives and because of what kind of person and fighter Shane was it's especially hard. It's a tragedy.

  • So sad . Hope you can see this tribute to you Shane. I think that you can.

  • Rest in peace, Champ. What a sad news this is, may he be in the light.

  • RIP from Holland

  • Life is very sad sometimes. Peace and light!
