Roy 'Big Country' Nelson gets his coaches approved for The Ultimate Fighter
Posted on July 29, 2012, 05:54 PM by Mike SearsonRoy "Big Country" Nelson is slated to be a coach on the newest installment of The Ultimate Fighter against Shane Carwin, which begins taping in a few days for a September broadcast. Unfortunately for Nelson, he had been having a hard time getting his coaches approved.
Nelson told MMAWeekly: “I’m excited. I’m just over here hoping that I can actually bring all my coaches that I want to be my assistant coaches and bring on. I might just have to do it myself. You never know. I don’t (think) they approve of half the people I hang out with. Right now I got Mo Lawal cause he’s a great wrestling coach and he helped me out the last time. Then I got Jeff Mayweather, James Johnson, those are just the three main ones that I have so far, and then I’m working on Anthony Brown. It’s about coaching and it’s about these kids. I think I even asked Victor Conte and I think he probably wouldn’t get approved because it’s about cleaning up the sport, and he’s one of those guys that wants to clean it up."
Lawal is now signed to Bellator Fighting Championships and TNA wrestling. Brown is a Muay Thai and Krav Maga instructor out of Las Vegas, while Jeff Mayweather is a famed boxing trainer. Conte is infamous in the world of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) as the former head of BALCO, the lab that was connected to producing steroids for many famous pro athletes including Barry Bonds, Shane Mosley and Bill Romanowski.
Nelson continued: “The thing is I’m just hoping they get approved because they tend to all stick together, because they know how it works. I don’t want them to be treated like Rosa Parks."
On his official Facebook page, Nelson just released his final list of coaches and guest coaches that will be appearing on the Ultimate Fighter this season:
"Here are my Assistant/Guest Coaches the non-UFC coaches will be helping but not on the set because they are black, criminals, white, Olympian, Great TV ... (disclaimer I have know idea, just opinion) NON-UFC ALLOWED: Muhammed Lawal, Kurt Angle, Victor Conte. UFC ALLOWED: Royce Gracie, James Johnson, Jeff Mayweather, George St. Pierre, Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, Rashad Evans, Forrest Griffin, Chael Sonnen, Jake Shields, Gilbert Melendez, Martin Kampmann, Amir Sadollah, Mike Pyle, Gray Maynard, Ron Frazier, Anthony Brown. I am a student first, teacher second. Let give theses kids an opportunity of a life time. A UFC SUPER CAMP."
The "NON-UFC ALLOWED" coaches will assist in coaching Team Nelson, but will not be shown on the air.

I respect him as a fighter but every time he speaks I feel dumber for just listening.
This is 100 % Bullshit
Read something totally different on MMA fighting, that Kurt Angle, Mo Lawal, and Conte were not approved by the UFC that they won't allow those guys to appear on the show.
Well it's reported here as News. Non-UFC allowed, will not be shown on the air.......
That's a pretty good list of coaches.
yes indeed
"UFC ALLOWED: Royce Gracie, James Johnson, Jeff Mayweather, George St. Pierre, Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, Rashad Evans, Forrest Griffin, Chael Sonnen, Jake Shields, Gilbert Melendez, Martin Kampmann, Amir Sadollah, Mike Pyle, Gray Maynard, Ron Frazier, Anthony Brown."
If he is able to pull off all this great names as his assistant coaches, who gives a F*@k about not showing the non-UFC allowed coaches...LOL
Not sure if it was just me but when I first read it on his site I thought it was clearly a joke...
Come on lowkick do you honestly think GSP and Nick Diaz would be coaching together lol?
since the list seems WAY bigger then any I've seen on the show in the past I wasn't sure either. but just because GSP and Nick Diaz are listed doesn't mean they need to coach together it's a long season they could be brought in at different times for short periods since they would be coaching different techniques clearly. I'm thinking with the low ratings from last season the UFC could be trying to build the show up and might have asked big stars to join the show week by week? just a thought. also with how well rounded you need to be now a days it's great to bring in such diverse talent to help train these kids.
This from the man who promised he'd drop to 205 if he got 250.000 fans. Sorry but I'm takin this with a pinch of salt and a stroke of my big country beard
Hopefully Burger King is sponsoring again, then Big Country will be all set in the nutrition department.....
