Rousimar Palhares Signs Multi-Fight Deal With World Series Of Fighting

Longtime UFC middleweight Rousimar Palhares made his successful welterweight debut at UFC Fight Night 29 when he submitted Mike Pierce with a vicious first round heel hook.

Problem was, Palhares held onto the hold too long, prompting the UFC to release him after a pattern of similar indiscretions had developed. Palhares had already been suspended for tweaking a leglock on Tomasz Drwal at UFC 111.

Many thought Palhares would make his way to Bellator, but Bjorn Rebney stated he wanted no part of the situation.

Today, however, “Toquinho” has found a new home. MMA Junkie has reported that Palhares has signed an exclusive multi-fight deal with World Series of Fighting. WSOF President Ray Sefo expressed his excitement at the signing:

“Rousimar is one of the most talented athletes in mixed martial arts, and we’re excited to have him as a part of our organization.”

Palhares may be extremely talented in submission grappling, but the fact is he remains a dangerous liability if he can’t get his emotions and faculties under control as to not injure an opponent. Pierce was lucky to escape with his knee ligaments largely intact.

It wasn’t stated whether Palhares will fight at welterweight in WSOF or go back to his original home of middleweight. If he were to stay at 170 pounds, some potentially exciting bouts with Jon Fitch, Steve Carl, and Josh Burkman could ensue.

What are your thoughts on the signing? Was Palhares given a bad rap, or is he undeserving of yet another chance after risking the health of his fellow fighter?
