Ricardo Lamas vs. Dennis Bermudez Rumored For UFC 180 In Mexico City

After destroying Clay Guida with a second round submission at July 26’s UFC on FOX 12 from San Jose, California, surging featherweight Dennis Bermudez jumped up five spots in the official UFC rankings with his seventh straight win.

“The Menace” set himself up for a high profile fight, and if this evening’s rumors are true, he’ll get just that. According to Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight, Bermudez could take on former title challenger Ricardo Lamas at November 15’s UFC 180 from Mexico City, Mexico.

Lamas, who lost a relatively one-sided decision to injured champion Jose Aldo at February ‘s UFC 169 from Newark, New Jersey, rebounded with a decision win over Hacran Dias at June 28’s UFC Fight Night 44 from San Antonio, Texas. “The Bully” currently sits at No. 4 in the rankings.

Lamas has apparently asked to fight the rising Bermudez, seeking to put an end to his steamrolling hype train:

It would be a stiff test for both talented featherweights, and with both having Latin heritage, it would no doubt be a strong addition to the UFC’s long-awaited debut on Mexican soil.

UFC 180 is set to feature the return of heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, who will face off with Brazilian No. 1 contender Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum at the culmination of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Mexico.
