Rashad Evans wants Lyoto Machida rematch "bad"

Rashad Evans hasn't seen the inside of the Octagon since his loss to Jon Jones back in April. Despite his efforts to get back into the cage before the end of the year, "Suga" will remain benched until 2013. As a guest on UFC Tonight, Evans divulged his plans for 2013 while confirming that he won't be fighting this year.

“I was hoping in December, by the end of the year," Evans said while nixing a move to middleweight, unless it were against champion Anderson Silva. "But it looks like it’s not going to happen until maybe February or March. Who am I going to fight is the main question?”

That's a damn good question. Evans has fought just about everyone in the division and would like to fight a top contender in his next bout. One of the few 205'ers that he has yet to fight, Glover Texiera, seems like it could be a possibility but Evans turned down that fight at UFC 153 -- due to not physically being able to compete. While that fight coule be a tantalizing dish, it's not the fight Evans wants.

“The guy who I really want to fight is a guy I lost my first fight to. I would like to fight Lyoto Machida again. He looked good against Bader. I want to get that one back, bad,” said Evans. However, Machida appears headed towards a showdown with Dan Henderson. That leaves Evans on the outside looking in when it comes to an open light heavyweight in the top tier of the division.

Well, there always is Teixeira

As much as I enjoy watching Rashad fight, it's going to be Finding Nemo again..

I think Rashad could win a rematch.

Machida would knock Rashad out if they fought again.

I'm with you guys. I think Rashad would have a better game plan this time and try to make it a wrestling match but in the end I think Machida would keep it standing long enough to get a KO.

+1. I don't understand why Evans doesn't make the move down to MW regardless of who he fights. If he wants Silva he would only need one or two fights at MW to get him. On the other hand, if he waits for it to be given to him he will likely not get a chance before Silva retires. Good thing Rashad isn't in business. He doesn't make good career decisions.

I wouldn't mind seeing them both at 185 (Machida and Rashad that is).

I'll cool that but honestly, Machida has been so dominant at LHW that I see no reason for him to drop. He isn't looking to fight Silva and he is the only person I can see beating Jones other than the Spider.

I'd like to see that fight.

I think Rashad is at a cross roads. He's doing well enough on TV and as a coach that he doesn't have to fight anymore. It will be interesting to see if he stays hungry.

Would be fun to see a rematch but there are plenty of other elite LHWs he could fight instead of taking a rematch.

I would love to see Evans against anyone like Hendo, Shogun, Gus or Glover.

IMO Rashad hasn't beat a strong top 10 guy since Rampage so it will be interesting to see him compete against a top guy not named Jon Jones.

They should just let the fighters pick their own fights, since that's what Sonnen did.

Rashad should go to 185. At least there are fresh fights for him there. His place at 205 feels stagnant..

Rashad should ask Jon Jones if Joe Silva is allowed to choose his fight.

Okay guys, I dont think you guys are giving rashad enough credit. When they first fought, rashad was on his high horse to much true... and came in trying to strike with lyoto, not using his wrestling which is a game winner for sure. Nobody can mix it up like rashad, but at the time lyoto wasnt figured out yet and he was on the up and coming. Rashad went the distance with jones, beat rampage ect... hed be able to mix it up and grind machida out imo. Rashad will win the rematch if there is one

Rashad is good no doubt but he isn't going to dominate Machida with wrestling. Machida's defensive wrestling is too good.
