Rashad Evans: The odds of me moving down to 185 are 50-50 or better

Former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Rashad Evans, elaborated on his possible move down to Middleweight, giving fans more hope for a possible match-up with Anderson "The Spider" Silva. According to Evans, there's a good chance of him moving down in weight classes is "50-50 or better". Here's what 'Suga' had to say in an interview with espn.com:

"I haven't totally made up my mind. It's something I'm going to think about a little more in the coming months and see where my body's at, but I'm definitely giving it serious consideration. The odds of me moving down to 185 are 50-50 or better.

I'm pretty sure I can make the cut," said Evans, who has a professional mixed martial arts record of 17-2-1, "but I've never been down that low. If I decide to move down, I will do a practice cut first to make sure my body can do it. That will determine whether I can fight at middleweight or not."

At the age of 32, Rashad Evans is a veteran of 15 UFC fights, losing only to Jon Jones and Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida. Evans started his Octagon with TUF 2 Finale victory over Brad Imes, and then immediately dropped down to 205. Evans weighed in at 224lbs for his fight with Imes.

So what do you think, LowKick'ers? What should be next for Rashad Evans? Do you think Evans could become a force to be reckoned with in the UFC Middleweight division, or Hector Lombard, Alan Belcher, Chris Weidman and others will be too much for 'Suga'? Use your keyboard.

You're probably right we have no evidence that shows that Silva can't KO pretty much anyone - yet this is a fight I would like to see.

I still stick my thoughts that Rashad should fight someone one or maybe two at middle weight first.

Maybe the winner of Stann and Bisping or Weidman.

MW has become the most interesting division all the sudden

There is evidence that Silva can be taken down and ground and pounded, and Rashad's takedowns are as explosive as anyone's in MMA, and he has nasty ground and pound.

    99.9% is "funny"

True enough Rashad has a real threat with take downs, ground and pound and quick great stand up.

Silva has a real tough test - hypothetically if Silva does manage to finish Rashad can we assume that he could defeat Jones?

Machida Ko'd Rashad I would say his weakness is his foot work.

He gets himself corned often - against Machida, Thiago, Rampage , Forrest. Almost got KO'd by Thiago and Rampage, Forrest doesn't have finishing pop in those punches and Machida Finished him.

If that happens again Silva will smoother him with shots and drop him up against the cage.

Its interesting that the MW's are moving division to get away from Silva and the LHW's are moving to get away from Jones. No easy fights anywhere right now.

Maybe Evans should've jumped GSP five months ago back stage and beat the **** out of him and claimed the title. He's not going to find Silva any easier than Jones

I like how the MW division has become one of the most talked about and mixed up divisions in the UFC. The contender's can be argued a ton of different ways.

Rashad to 185 Chael to 205. I like Rashad's chances for success much more than Chaels.

I doubt it, Chael holds a lot of respect for Rashad.

He even called Rashad "the best LHW we've seen" after the Tito Ortiz performance.

This means he has already accepted that he can't and won't ever beat Jones and that's just sad to me. He talked a lot of trash, didn't perform, but didn't get finished. IMO, he should man up and make one more run at LHW before dropping to MW

He should man up? The former LHW champion whose also an Ultimate fighter winner that has a build that could also fit at MW even while winning the most prestigious championship in UFC history needs to "man up"?

You gotta be fukin kidding me.

Everything you just said about him is why I said that. He's better than that! I was complimenting him by "bashing"(if you will) his first decision after the loss to Jones, to drop a weight class. And on a side note, that weight cut would actually be rough him unless he cut a lot of muscle too

I didn't think you were bashing him. I thought the line you picked to use was terribly thought out. There's nothing about Evans or his career that shows he needs to man up.

The weight cut would be rough, but after a test cut it would be easy. He's not big at all for LHW.

I think for sure he could still compete at LHW, but if wants to make a run at MW to specifically pick a fight Anderson Silva? More power to him.

the guy is no spring chicken he is 32. it will be a while till he gets another shot at Jones because he will have to work his way up again plus he has already held that title so there would be no loss of respect if he did move down to try the MW. His explosiveness is far greater than Sonnnen`s which with his wrestling would cause AS a lot of problems. He would have to win at least two fights at MW first tho.

You might want him to win two fights, but with his resume and drawing power, if he drops to 185, he will get an immediate shot. No question.

really? if that`s the case why does he not drop straight away?

he has to work his way back up in the LHW division which could take a while. plus a few MW`s would have a big problem with that.

Evans is 5'11 and has a reach of 75", so I would say he should make the drop.

I totally agree with you! He is definitely a small LHW! Even with the drop he wouldnt be the biggest in the weightclass. There are couple of guys bigger then him.
