Rampage Jackson And Muhammed Lawal Will Square Off On Bellator 120 Pay Per View

Bellator’s debut on PPV was originally slated to include a UFC veteran face off in the form of Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson vs Tito Ortiz at Bellator 106. The fight fell through when Ortiz was injured, and Rampage has since gone 2-0 with victories over Christian M’Pumbu and Joey Beltran.

Bellator’s new debut on PPV has been set for Bellator 120: Alvarez vs. Chandler III, and news has emerged that King Mo vs. Rampage Jackson. The event will go down in Southaven, Miss., near Jackson’s home town of Memphis, Tenn. Check out what ‘Page’ had to say via MMAJunkie:

“I’ve been wanting to come back to Memphis for the last decade, and I’m finally getting that chance to fight in one of the biggest fights of my career for Bellator,” Jackson stated. “After being part of the Bellator family for a while now, I feel like the old ‘Rampage,’ and that’s not a good thing for Mo. I’m back, I’m a monster, and I’m looking to put on another entertaining fight for all my fans on May 17.”

The pro-wrestling style showdown that Lawal and Rampage had after their respective wins at Bellator 110 was more comical than riling. If I had to describe it to you in pictures, it would either be this or this, or maybe this. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney seems happy enough to copy Dana White’s UFC model rather than try to put a different angle on the sport.

My advice would be to try and focus on the legitimacy of your tournaments and champions. One thing I feel the UFC lacks is credibility throughout the rankings, and rather than replicate UFC style beefs and promotion techniques, why not hit the fans with something fresh and new? Maybe try and really push MMA to the forefront of the public view with something original?

That being said, I will be tuning in to see Eddie Alvarez take on Michael Chandler for the third time. They are without doubt the two best lightweights outside the UFC, and they really know how to put on a fight.

I will of course be watching Rampage vs. King Mo, but the theatrical posturing between the two does little more than remind me that I’m watching Bellator. It’s frustrating, because I believe in you Bellator and I’ve tried my hardest to like you…but sometimes you just suck.
